He was on board the Quincy (CA-71) when she crossed the arctic circle on Sept. 16,1952 and she has his document he was given for becoming a member of the Blue Noses for that crossing. If anyone knew him or of him she would love to hear from you. Again his name was Whitmore John H. Sgt. USMC.

father, Jack Germain, was a Store Keeper on board the Quincy
and the Tingey, as well as being stationed on Guam. He passed
away on 23 May 2013. Any stories would be appreciated. He

officer.

Hally who served aboard the Quincy. He never discussed
with me much about his time on the ship. Although he did
show me some of the photos of him boxing. I guess he
used to box aboard the ship which i guess were called
smokers. I m just curious about his time on the ship
as i didn t push the issue. He passed away about 15
years ago and i m sorry i did nt ask more questions as i
know he was proud to serve his country and his time
aboard the ship.

cruise in the Mediterranean during December 1952.

Comments: Dallas Diettert, a veteran of the Korean War who served aborad the USS Quincy and USS Lewis passed into God's grace on November 3, 2011. Dallas served as Chairman of the Korean War Quincy Reunion Group for a number of years. He is survived by his wife Mary and 4 sons, Steven, Jeffrey, Gregory and Scott.

Comments: My grandfather is Anthony Tanzola and he served as a pilot aboard a C-47 during the DDay invasion. He dropped supplies for the 101st Airborne then was shot-down into the English Channel. The USS Quincy picked my grandfather and the rest of his crew up out of the Channel. My grandfather stayed with the Quincy for the rest of that mission while they unloaded their ammunition onto the beaches. I've recently started researching his experiences since I know I won't have him to tell me them directly anymore. Anyone that can provide me with different sites, or places to contact I would really appreciate it. Also, if you were on the Quincy at that time and remember this then I would really love to hear from you.

Comments: I boarded the Quincy July 1952 in Portsmouth, VA. after boot camp in Bainbridge, MD. Went on operation Mainbrace in North Atlantic, then toured Mediterranien, then on patrol in Korean waters. Left ship on return to Youkusuka, Japan after truce signed. Made token appearance in movie being filmed there, "Bridges of Toka Ree",. After 30 day leave, went to Hospital Corps School at Balboa in San Diego, then was assigned to Naval Hospital and Flight Surgeon Team for Navy Blue Angles at Corpus Christi, Texas. Was discharged March 1956.

Left the ship in San Diego in June, 1953.
