Comments: My father, Dick Cook (Richard Dana Cook) served on the USS Helena (CA-75) and was on active duty from June 25, 1951 to April 22, 1953. I'm trying to find any photos of him that might exist, information regarding what his duties might have entailed, and information regarding any battles or actions in which he might have been involved.

He did mention once that he had crossed paths with a young President Jimmy Carter and I know he was on board when the USS Helena became the Flag Ship.

11th Naval District bound for Korea then went to Hong
Kong for R and R.

I am looking for information concerning my father,
Ronald G Powell, and a story he had told me many
times over the years. He says that he is the guy
that flooded the fuel oil tanks with sea water adding
ballast as they were headed to Honolulu through rough
seas inadvertently drenching Admiral Nimitz with
crude. He was the Water and Oil King on the Helena
in 1955. If any of you fine people have any

Comments: We are looking for veterans who were participated in Chang-Sa Dong Battle of Korean War in Sept.15 1950. Ou research shows that USS Endicott and Cruiser Helena (CA-75) operated as back up for the Korean Guerillas, who tried to attack the enemy on the seashore. We are looking for the testimonies of the veterans who witness the battle. Recently, there are a movement of Korean Veterans,who participate in the battle, which build up "A Memorial Tower' for those who could not retreat from the battle and lefted to die. Comments: my father served on the uss helena ca-75. I beleive it was in the late 50's early 60's. He was a quiet man and didn't tell us much about his time in the war, but when he did speak of it, he held his head up high and he spoke just a bit louder then usual. We could tell he was very proud to have served on her with his buddies. His name was KENNETH WAYNE HARRIS (Buddy). And we're all proud of him.

Comments: Expecting to hear from some of you!!! I made four (4) trips to Korea aboard the Helena.

Keywords: Went aboard Helena on July 5, 1950 at Long Beach, CA. Straight from boot camp Company 052 in San Diego, CA.
Two of us was assigned to the 4th Division, John L. Byrd and I. Later, I transferred to Gunnery Office as Yeoman. Left ship in 1952 to attend Class "A" Yeoman School but returned to ship after completing school. Surely, there is still some of you guys that I was with still living.
