Comments: I'm trying to find any information I can about my Uncle Captain James Huey Parker who was in the 98th bomb wing 345th b squadron. he was stationed at Homestead Fla. The planes crashed while a refueling mission. I'm not sure but thank this was around 1957 since he entered in service in 1945 and served 13 years. I would appreciate any info I can get. Thanks

Comments: I joined the 98th BG, 91st Recon Squadron in Feb 57 at Yokota AFB
and was elected the Daytime Mayor of Fussa. Our missions were
boring for the most part except when we were jumped over Northern
China on a few occasions. Got my Chotto Matte ribbon after 3
weeks in Japan.

Comments: I know this forum is mainly for the Korean War Era, however the 98th flew B-24 Liberators from Palestine, North Africa and Italy before flying B-29s in Korea.
We welcome ALL former 98thers from 1942 to the present 98th Range Wing and NEW 343rd Bomb Squadron (B-52s)to join our association.
I have just been able to acquire a previously unknown video of the 98th over north Africa. This video features a famous B-24 "THE SANDMAN" amongst others of the 98th. This Video is available from the 98th VETS.ASSOCIATION

Comments: Although I have all 3,965 B-29 S/Ns, I cannot find one with the name of Rocky Mountain Ranger. I do have perhaps 2 to 3 thousand names. Many of the B-29s were RENAMED time after time. I believe the October 1947 issue of POPULAR MECHANICS carried a story about your subject. The magazine may be available out there somewhere.

Comments: I'm looking for anyone who may have information concerning a joint testing between the USAAF and the US Forest Service in July 1947. Specifically, I'm trying to locate a s/n, unit, crew members, images, etc., of a B-29 named "Rocky Mountain Ranger". The testing involved dropping water filled bombs on forest fires.
Thank you
Sincerely

Comments: Until this book, very little had been published about B-29 combat operations during the Korean War, and most of what was written was either incomplete or riddled with misconceptions. Having flown 28 combat missions as a B-29 copilot and witnessed the aftermath of the Namsi debacle I was anxious to set the record straight.
In doing so, I spent seven years researching and writing about a battle that lasted fifteen minutes--yet forever changed the way air warfare would be waged.
Black Tuesday Over Namsi, a True History of the Epic Air Battle of the Korean War can be ordered from the publisher, Heritage Books by calling 800-876-6103 or online at heritagebooks.com.
Reviews of Black Tuesday Over Namsi can be accessed through my web site, B-29s in the Korean War. Readers have so far responded that they were surprised and delighted. I hope you will be too and look forward to hearing from you.

Comments: Brian:
My records are far from complete. However I do not find anything in my files about William Guzzette.
I have ALL 3,965 B-29 serial numbers and do NOT find one with the last two digits of 50 or 51 that served in the 98th
The only possibilities would be
42-94050, 44-62050, 44-70050, 44-84050 OR 42-94051, 44-62051, 44-70051, 44-84051
Also, I do not find any B-29 in the 98th named Anna Maria.
If I can help more, you may Email me at BOMBGRP98@aol.com

his stories he was a pilot in the 98th with the rank of Captain. He
remember his B-29's tail number being 50 or 51. They named there
planes "Anna Maria". A total of three - two destroyed in action and the
third returned to March Air Field. Any information would be greatly
appreciated.
