Comments: Carrier Air Group Four (CAG-4), was aboard the USS Lake Champlain-CVA-39, during the
Korean War. ----- CAG-4 was made up of three Fighter Squadrons: The Cavaliers of VF-22,
The Gladiators of VF-62, and The Hornets of VF-44. The Attack Squadron was The
Blackbirds of VA-45. The four Composite Squadrons were : VC-4, VC-12, VC-33, and VC-62.

Carrier Air Group Four, was Home Based at NAS Jacksonville, Florida.
The CAG-4 Commanding Officer was : Commander John Richard Sweeney (1915 - 2001)
USNA-1935, Retired in 1968, with the rank of Captain, buried, Arlington National Cemetery.
Washington, D.C.

Comments: On 25, June 1953, aboard the USS Lake Champlain-CVA-39, An AD-4N getting ready for
a combat sortie on the ship's cat, was the victim of a run-away cat. The aircraft was pitched
into the Sea of Japan, off Korea, The three crewmen of VA-45, were able to clear the sinking
aircraft. Lt A.F. Keown, USN, ALC. A.E. Peloquin, USN, and AT3. R.O. Nault, USN, were
rescued by the USS Moale-DD-693, and returned to duty.
