Keywords: kaohsuing comes to mind, look it up,it's a city of skyscrapers now! okinawa looks like the las vegas strip.good times, good duty.remember HM2 Ballentine,1958.

Comments: I am researching the evolution of the camouflage schemes ( called Measures in the Navy ) of the Pine Island keyed to dates ( as it changed )as well as the camouflage schemes and markings of the sea planes she tended ( also keyed to dates ).

I have worked as a volunteer project supervisor for scale models for the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in New York City since 1981 - having supervised 20 major exhibits over the years - even before she berthed as a museum ship in the Big Apple. In addition to the Intrepid I have donated my services in the same acapacity to a variety of other museums and instituitons. Check out http://www.njipms.org - click on the Features button to see my exhibit on Francis S.Gabreski - top U.S. ace in the ETO during WWII.

I am looking for photos and drawings to back up information.

Comments: I am a person intrested in the USS Pine Island AV-12. As a kid It was one of the Model Kits I built.
Since that time I have always loved that ship. It
was a beautiful ship. Now 31 years later I am looking for it again to build. I looked on Ebay, no luck. If anyone knows of a source in obtaining this model ( manufacter is Revell ) I would be very happy if you would pass on that info to me.
I wish everyone well
Sincerely
Robert.....

Comments: Before my fathers passing three years ago while changing the channels on the television my father saw a documentary which showed the ship involved with some work in the arctic. In the summer of 1983 our family went on vacation to california from San Francisco to the Mexican boarder. While driving through San Diego we passed the mothballed fleet and there was the U.S.S. Pine Island. It made the whole family feel ever closer to my father, and appreciate his life as a young man.
