Comments: Served aboard the Orca from recommissioning at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in 1952 to June 1954. I remember Whitey from the Radar gang. Had 1 modern radar, SPS-5 and an antique WWII SC air search. Great times aboard the ship. Ports of call were Subic Bay, Sangley Point, Cebu City, Legaspi City, Zamboanga, in the PI, Penang Malaysia, Bangkok, Saigon, Djakarta and Surabaja) in Indonesia, among others. All time favorite was duty as Station Ship Hong Kong. Left the Navy in 1954 in San Diego after three months on the USS Badoeng Strait, CVE 116. Since then spent 30 years as a civilian member to the Strategic Systems Project Office team working on the SSBN Submarine Weapon Systems as an Engineer and Program Manager. Retired in 1991 and since then have been a Real Estate Appraiser in Arizona, California, and finally Arkansas.

Comments: Boarded the Orca when she was in Vallejo, Ca. drydock. Served aboard from 9/51 to 7/54. She stayed in far-east service for little time after. When we sailed out of North Island,Ca., in the wee hours of 1/5/53, we thought we would be back in 12 months - later found out we were non-rotational (ship stays but we would be relieved after certain months of duty.) Good duty, saw many beautiful sights, visited many interesting countries, great duty in Hong Kong. Many, many fond memories. Went on temporary duty with VP-46,PBM squadron based at Sangley Point,Phillipines due to their shortage of radio operators. Good duty.
