Comments: Tours to Iwakuni, Hong Kong as station ship. I was supposed to have been on the plane that was jumped by the MIG. I don't know why things were changed.
Then on to Alaska to take the supply ship to Point Barrow. We sat in some harbor south of the Artic Circle while we flew flights to watch the ice flows.
We attracted the attention of Moscow Molly.
Our Captain was Capt Allen . Would love to hear from anyone on board during that time.

We soon departed for The Southern most Phillipine Island of Davoe, where we operated with P5M Seaplanes surveiling a Soviet submarine operating with a Soviet trawler. The soviets were rumored to be preparing for a "A" bomb test in the South Paciffic at the time.

Comments: My dad, Frank Royal served on the Onslow, or the "oh so slow" as my mom told me, in the early 50's. He died of colon cancer at age 23, just after his service ended. I've always wondered if Dad's ship was present for nuclear testing...
He was in Korea, and visited Hong Kong, and was a member of the Neptune club.
