Comments: The name on the subject line is my father-in-law. Paul died a couple of years ago. We are trying to find out more about what happened to him in Korea in 1951. The family story is that he was an 18-year old private in the USMCR and came back home for Korea as a sergeant. On the way back, he was in a Naval hospital in Japan for some months.
The family would be happy to hear from any of Paul's fellow Marines.
My own USMC connection is that I was "Marine DI trained" in the Navy Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Fl, in the mid-1970s, and still have a number of USMC friends, including my DI from those days.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Tom

All I know is that he was a Sgt in the 5th Marine Regiment, Second Battalion in Dog Company w/ the First Marine Division. His last name may have been Stasi and that about all I have. THE SINGING MARINE
Corporal William Shurts, 21 of F. Company, 5th Marine Regiment, was hit by a sniper's bullet on a Korean hill. He died the next day. His inspirational singing brought cheer and courage to the trenches. His comrades described him as the "man who brought God to the front lines!" His favorite song was: "The Old Rugged Cross." How this song enheartened the men in the foxholes! Often, they would join with Corporal Shurts on the chorus. Passing from man to man, William spoke quietly to them of faith in God. "After he talked to us," a comrade wrote, "the dark foiled utterly. But for sinners he has a Gospel.

Comments: I'm looking for information on anyone who may have served in Korea with my father Jerry D. Storey. He entered bootcamp at MCRD San Deigo, on 2/26/1951 and served in Korea. I have no information on any specific unit but he was in the infantry and left from California. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
