Comments: Hello!
I am a militaria collector and I own a Lt. William E Codd's P1941 USMC field uniform. I have him as enlisting in 1944, and serving aboard the USS Chicago in WWII and then joining up again in 1951 as a 1st Lt. in A Battery, 1st 90 MM Gun Battalion. Any other information on him would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Comments: I am looking for information on my dad's unit. He was Joseph T. Veillon, assigned to D Battery, 1st 90mm AAA Gun Battalion, USMC. He joined this unit in June 1951 while stationed at Camp Lejeune. My dad was traveling on the troop train that wrecked at Lettsworth, Louisiana on August 10, 1951 while en route to Korea. I have a number of photos that he took of the wreck scene. He arrived in Korea aboard the USNS General M.C. Meigs sometime in late August 1951. I know that his unit was assigned to the area of Pusan harbor.
I would like to know what things were like for the 1st 90 AAA Gun Battalion at Pusan. I have searched extensively online and in a number of books (including Walt Cheely's fine and interesting book), but I've not found anything about any actions the unit may have been in. My dad was at Pusan from August 1951 to June 1952. Was the area around Pusan relatively quiet during this time? What was the situation around Pusan for the 1st 90?
I know the name of only Marine that my dad served with in Korea. His sergeant was Donald or Bob Cosby from New York. My dad was a country-boy from Louisiana and spoke French. He was 18 when he arrived in Korea.
Any information at all would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Comments: This item appeared in Sgt. Grit's Newsletter in which he posed the question, What were your most memorable days in the Marine Corps? Our Sgt. Vogel responds as follows:
Actually I had three best days.
1. The day I graduated from Boot Camp (P.I.) 9/9/51
2. The day I met Chesty Puller at Pendleton. (Full Field Marching Pack inspection). 8/15/52
3. The day I met Gen. Lemuel C. Sheperd Commandant of the Marine Corps in Korea. (Personnel inspection). October of 1952., Don't remember the day.
The marching pack inspection went well for most of us. Gen. Shepard asked my age (18) and how long I had been in Korea. (14 days) His reply was good man.
There could not have been a more proud Marine that day.
