Comments: I have been it touch with a former AF S/sgt Walter W. Henricks AF 16310913 He was a commo man on Cho-do and Paengnyong-do (K53) back in 1951
He was injured on 17 Sep 51 while tying a cable to the tail of a Greek C47 that had ground looped in the soft sand and was in the surf. He got caught under the tail, but was able to hook up the cable and they were able to pull the plane out. He is trying to verify his service in Korea. His address is: Walter W. Henricks

Comments: After 50 years of silence my dad is beginning to tell me his experiences in Korea. He has identified the 608th as his unit. (At least the first unit he was assigned to.) I really think he needs to unload all of this before he can die with an unburdened heart. I was just looking at the web trying to find some of the places he mentions and help him with maps and whatever else I can find.

Comments: To C. Davidson,
Was browsing and found your email address and thought I'd write to you about ancient history. Small world, isn't it?
I finished RADAR school at Keesler in '52, sent
to Lake Charles AFB, La. and from there was sent to K-18, Kangnung, Korea in '54. Yup, was up
there on that hill but it was the 606th ACW detatchment. We had that old Philco MPS-7,
it's MK-X IFF and that broken down old TPS-10Dog
height finder that hardly ever worked. We came within a inch of kicking that damn thing down
the hill but our RCA and Philco Tech Reps talked
us out of it. I was in the repair section and we cursed that old pile of junk we
had for radars.
After that I went to Barksdale, re-uped for Japan and ended up back at Itazuke AB where we all left from to head to "frozen chosen" but this
time I got a cushy job with FEN. Stayed there
through '59, then Kelly and out.
While in Japan I bought property between Kasugabaru (K-Bar)and Zasshonokuma. Not much but enough to build the first house on a block that was totally paddy fields. Now there are high
like downtown Tokyo. Been there ever since. rises all around and within the city limits of Fukuoka in Hakata Ku. I Built a house and an
apartment bldg next door. I actually have my
residence in there but am now working for Scenic Airlines in Las Vegas as a Japanese tour guide. What the hell, it's a living.
I can generally stand it here for about 3 or max
4 months and have to get back home to get my
hear straightened out and have a deep, hot ofuro.
I might ask that you check your records and verify it was the 608th and not the 606th. My old orders show 606th but it might have changed before I got there. Our large round patch we
all wore depicted an octopus with tools in all hands, with a rubber in one and a 3 level screwdriver in the other. Under it said"Fix It
Or Fuck It". Wish I kept my jacket with that patch, it was a riot.
Let's hear from you. Henry Schutzbier. Las Vegas, NV

Aircraft completely demolished, burned, pilot climbed out of cockpit and walked out through flames. said it was his 2nd incident in 2 weeks. I have pictures of the a/c cartwheeling down strip at K-52. Any one know who he was or remember the incident ?
