Comments: I was Assigned to the 6123 AC and W Radar/Radio site detachment at
Kunsan AFB Korea during 1957-1958.
6123 AC and W Squadron was at Osan AFB during this time.
We operated a Navy surplus TPS-1D long range search Radar that
was located near the Kunsan AFB runway as a back-up to Osan's
Radar capabilities. We also operated and maintained some TRK
1 FM radios as a relay site on a hill adjacent to Kunsan AFB.
It was a small site with no more than 10 to 15 people assigned,
and used Kunsan base facilities such as mess hall, BX etc.
Toward the end of my tour in May of 1958 we were tasked in
turning the site over to the ROKAF and as we rotated they
took over the functions of the site. Probably complete by
end of June 1958, as all US Air Force Personnel should have
rotated by this time. As far as I know the 6123 AC and W Squadron
at Osan was still a funtional unit at this time.

Comments: Found this site by under 6123rd Sqdrn.

Was on Cheju-do for a year. 1957 to 1958. Looked up Cheju-do, and they now have hotels and people go there for their HONEYMOON????

In 1957 to 1958, not even a landing strip! If weather permitted, supplies from Japan came in.

I one time received 21 letters, no plane for three weeks. Food purchased from village.

Anyone out from the 1957 to 1958 time frame?

Keywords: Anyone remember the shooting of a Korean woman on the mountain in Taegu, in summer 1951? She was shot near the radar site and the AACS tent, below.
Our site was near K-2 and K-18.
