Comments: I was in the 848th AC&W detachment 28 1956-1958 (Abashiri/Hokkiado/Japan). If you were there I am trying to find servicemen that would remember the barracks fire that took place in 1957. If you remember the
event can you please let me know. The USAF records for many of us were burnt in the fire at the archives in 1973. I have been looking for years as I had a bad fall back then that has left me with a spinal cord injury.
Thank you in advance.

Comments: Years later, I believe, the 848th, located at
Tibetsu, Japan was turned over to the Japanese Air
Force, and later became known as Operating Location
AB (OLAB) within the command of the 475th Tac Ftr
Wing at Misawa Air Base. I was there from Oct 1969
to Oct 1970. I was an Interceptor Controller and in
charge of four Lieutenants, and we were there to
basically watch the activity and assist the Japanese
if anything dire happened and to assist the Japanese
controllers if they had any problem controlling the
American fighters out of Misawa. Our sister site was
located on the big Island closer to Misawa. It was
great, we had four Japanese civilians taking care of
us. Two of them were cooks, and I never ate as well
as I did then. In Oct 1970, the Air Force pulled out
of all of the radar sites where they had assigned
personnel. Sad, as it was one great remote duty
assignment.

I base this guess from a group photo taken in 1958.
I can see most of the unit designation in the photo. I would appreciate it
if someone would be able to shed some light on this organisation. My dad
died when I was only 3, so I`m doing some family history research.
Thanks,
