Activated on January 1, 1953 to replace the 403rd TCW, 483rd TCW controlled the 314th TCG as well as its own 483rd TCG. It assumed responsibility for C-119 troop carrier and air transport operations in a large area of the Far East. Using virtually every pilot and aircraft of both groups, it moved approximately 4,000 paratroopers and their equipment from southern Japan to Korea in June-early July 1953.

He was a Aircraft Mechanic on the C119s and also played on the football team.

I am trying to help Jim's family collect anything that might have his service number or anything that I can use to complete a records check. Jim's offical records were destroyed in the St Louis fire and we need this info to get a new DD214. Jim is currently living in an assited living faciality but the family would like to try and get him into a local vetran facility.

Comments: My father-in-law, Paul Arndt, is now 80. He served in the 483rd TCW at Ashiya AFB Kyushu from July 1952 to July 1954. He had various assignments dealing with supply and loading C-119s. There was a huge flood in the city of Kyushu beginning in June 1953 in which he helped the local people. He also remembers pushing crates of supplies out the back of C-119's at night over Korea. Comments: C-119 crew chief form March '55 to Feb '57. Favorite bar "White Horse". Lots of memories for sure. Traveled Thailand, Phillipines, Formosa, Okinawa and Korea. Got screwed out of a trip to Australia when the line chief decided to become a crew chief for a week. Ha. RHIP eh?
