Comments: Hello. I am looking for a picture of a patch my 87 yo father is trying to describe to me where they had their own patch they only wore a month or so before the brass made them remove them. He describes it as having an F86D with the words “We Can Hack SAC” a buzz saw and on the outside it was “41st Fighter Interceptor Squadron.”
I don’t know how much he remembers correctly but I’m having trouble imagining it. Technology is a barrier with him…ha…so getting him to even send a pic similar is not possible. He was from Guam to Japanese early 1956 through 1957.
Does anyone recognize this? And by any stretch, does anyone have the patch that they can send a photo of?

We were stationed in Guam in the 50s and my dad was a pilot. I believe he was Capt. at the time, but it could be before he was promoted to Capt. We were very excited to find this conversation when we searched for the 41st FIS! If someone has more information on the squad, we'd love to hear it!

Comments: My dad, Lavell William Travis, was a fighter pilot during the Korean War. I was hoping to find out what Squadron he belonged to.
I'm asking because my husband and I came across an old sign that probably sat in the offices of the 41st FTR INTCP SQ at some point. It's handmade and was discovered at an estate sale in Lacey's Springs, Alabama.
My dad was stationed at Luke AFB in the early 1950's, which is where he got out of the Air Force.
If my dad was in the 41st, I have a wonderful momento. If not, my husband and I would like to return this to the 41st, if they would like to have it.
Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
Even if someone could just guide me to a place that would have a listing. Thank you.

down on a natural gravel slide.I hate to be picky,

Comments: I am looking for any information I can find about what
my father did while serving at Andersen Air Force Base
in Guam. The Air Force records do not even show that
he was stationed in Guam. He was there between July
1956 - October 1957. Before his time there he trained
at Scott AFB, Illinois, as a Ground Radio Repairman.
We have no information about what he did there due to
his contracting cancer and passing away when I was 10
years old. His name was Robert Dale Barrus, he was an
A/1C. If anyone can shed some light on this it would
be a blessing to all four of his children.
We are sure that his cancer came from something that
happened in Guam.
I also have some amazing home movies that he took while
he was there. I have had them digitized and can have
them copied for anyone who would like them.

Comments: I worked on the Alert Pad out in the jungle for
several months. Tough duty, 24 on and 48 off. I was
there when they started striping all the goodies out
of the dogs. I remember we use to think the 86 really
was a dog until a test pilot from North American came
over and showed us just what that aircraft would do.
I remember his helmet looked like solid silver. He
made that 86 do things no one had ever seen before.
We had a better appreciation for it after that.
I was a lowly A2nd class and did not plan on
reenlisting so got passed over sergeant. One of my
big mistakes in life. I played basketball for the
base team and was gone a lot. I roomed with a guy
from Muleshoe, TX by the name of Dodd. We had some
wild times Muleshoe being dry back in those days, he
could get to feeling pretty good on a few beers.
I was having such a good on the Island that I missed
my first flight going home. About two weeks later I
got back from town, there was a note on my bunk from
the CO. saying ther was a plane leaving for for the
States at 12:00 PM and I would be on it or be in jail
the next day. I was on it left all my things and some
money with my friends. Told them to have a party on
me. I was sent back to Travis field and discharged
Jan. of 1960. THE END.

I was only 5 years old when my dad was assigned to this unit but I still have some memories of the storms, the quanset hut home we lived in, the motor scooter he drove, the Christmas celebration where Santa Clause flew in on a helicopter, a USO show, and the jungle behind our house.

When it came time, we were notified of our pending move to Guam in the Marshal Islands, South Pacific. We sent the aircraft maintenance crews out to Iwo Jima. They were to re-fuel the F86D's at the island. The planes were expected to get there with almost no fuel left, even though special wing type fuel tanks were added. The planes were then to proced to Anderson Air Base in Guam. We, the remaining squadron members, were to go on board a cargo plane, along with the dependents, and fly straight to Guam. So, Japan to Guam, 1956. After about two months on Guam, I was transfered to 7th Air Force (Advanced), where I stayed until 1958.

The aircraft had yellow and white strips for ID's on the wings and belly, but nothing on the tail. The aircraft was getting older and the 104 Starfighter was coming in with solid state radar so we took sledgehammers to the aircraft and busted them up. I
thought the squadron was deactivated as a lot of guys were getting early outs.
