His name is Bill Manney. I saw one post mentioning it, but there's unfortunately no email to reach out to. I'd love to hear any stories as well if anyone on here knows my grandpa or spent time with him. Thanks.

Comments: Hi, I have several questions. Seems my dad was in the 39th unit but I have no information.
As most Vets did he never talked about Korea, so I really never thought about asking, until he was gone.
I have a ton of photos he took, Start and Stripes newspapers and fighter pilot press release photos with short Bios.
I also have a 39th unit patch that I cant seem to find anyplace, it has the cobra and above the patch it has 39TH FTR INT SQ. I find the patch but without the 39th FTR INT SQ on it. what makes my patch different? I also have the gold shooting star with the 5 and above it KOREA, again I cant find one like it.

I would love to find the pilots families and send them the photos and maybe get some background.

Was in the Korean, stationed at Suwon.
And was a mechanic on a F-86.
The photo we have of him has him, pilot and another mechanic(gun?) standing on the F86 with a sign that says 25,000th sortie.

Comments: At 80 years of age or more, as are all who served
with me in
Suwon in 1953-1954, remembering names has become
difficult.
Hector Gonzales, with whom I have remained in
contact over the
years is the only name I can remember, although
there others
whose names are on the tip of my tongue. Pappy
Chelf (sp.) is
another name that just came to me.
I worked in wepons maintainence, and my gang had
use of the
bore site range every third or fourth day, to
align the .50
caliper machine guns of the F-94's after the
planes had been
serviced. We would fire a 5 round burst from one
gun at a time
to make the appropriate ajustments. One day just
as I was
giving my associate in the cockpit the ok to fire
a burst, I
saw a few Korean kids run to the target we were
aimed at and
carried the target away. Fortunately I got my
associate's
attention in time to cancel the firing of the gun.
Before I rotated back to the U.S., a nurse group
was berthed
near the quanset hut I was assigned to, which was
near a fence
that seperated us from the rice paddies.
We had a fair softball team and had fun playing
against the
pilots.
Archbishop Spellman visited while we were there
and officiated
at a Catholic Mass in a hanger on the other side
of the base.

Comments: Looking for any info reguarding service of Air Force personel who served with my father in Korea and or at McGhee/Tyson, Tennessee 1951-53.
Capt L.F. Rice jr retired with 25 years service, and passed on 28 Feb. 1992. His 2nd wife Betty, lives in Port Hueneme, Caifiornia.

As my father was a career Air Corp/ Air Force man I rarely saw him as a kid. When "Les" returned from Korea we lived as a family in Alcoa Tenn, and as I got to know my Dad, I got bit by the airplane bug with the arrival of the F-86A. I spent many days on base looking on while Sabres were repaired and flew anywhere at anytime. This time with my dad were the best times we ever had.
I loved listening to his Korean war buddies talks about the old (bad) times in Korea and flying B-17s In England.
This is what started my 40 year aviation career.

Besides writing an on-going book about my father, Sabres, Sabre developement, Korea, and the fantastic stories I grew up with, I have reciently found photographs of
F-86As at McGhee Tyson with their distintive red lighting bolt and dragon in the crest of the scheme painted on the fuselage.
I have sent copies of these photographs to DUNCAN CURTIS who has several books about Sabres in currently in print. I do not know when the next book of his will appear with our photographs.

I am always looking for anyone who knew my father and may have any information or just want to say hello?
To all you men who served our country in those horrible days of Korea, I want you to know many of us slept better at night knowing the sound of a Sabre flying up high at night was allowing us to enjoy the good life we all have, even today. We never forget.
Thank You, each and every one of you, from potato peelers to pilots! God bless you all.
Godspeed

Comments: It has been a long time since being in the 39th but I do have some fond memories. We lived in shacks and my fellow airman knew my early bathroom habits and hid my shoes in February of 1954. Nature called and I could not find my shoes to go to the outdoor privey so I ran barefoot through ice pulled up in the ground to go. I failed to see the humor at that time but I can laugh now. Needless to say I did my #2 job in record time. Perhaps to be in records of Korea. Jerry K. Love

Comments: I'm looking for any information about my father, George Dale Jones, killed in action, October 28, 1951 (I can't find him in the Korean war database). He was with the 39th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at the time of his death. I know very little about him and am searching for what information I can get. Any directions to go in on my search.

Thanks, Mike Jones
