Comments: I am trying to find any information regarding my father's service in Korea during 1951-1953. He was a technical sgt working on F-86 Sabres. He trained in Biloxi, Miss at Keesler and I know he worked on a Lt. Anderson's FU-218 probably at Keesler or possibly in Korea. I have a number of pictures that show multiple people and would be happy to share if we can id any of them. I have one picture that appears to be in Korea that shows a couple F-86 aircraft in the background, one of which has a tail number FU-287 and another where the 4 digit number starts with 9 and ends with 84. Any information is welcome as he has passed and there are no other family members of his age. Thanks!

I'm a novelist researching details about the three squadrons assigned to the 4th FIW during the Korean war for a book I am writing. I'd be very interested in hearing from any pilots/ground crew assigned to the 334th, particularly around March-May 1951. Any photos very welcome and will gain an acknowledgement in the foreword section.

Thanks in advance

Sadly I never had the honor of meeting John, but his son (my husband) and his three daughters speak so highly of him. I'm wanting to put together a collage or album for the four kids as a surprise. Here's the info I rec'd from one of my sisters-in-law:

I believe he was part of the 4th Fighter-Intercepter Wing (FIW). Part of that was the 4th Fighter-Interceptor Group (FIG). The FIG was made of of 3 squadrons. Dad's was the 334th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron (FIS) who had the nickname Eagles. They were stationed at Kimpo Air Base outside of Seoul.

Many thanks,

Comments: I made a typo in my e-mail address in my first posting. Some may
remember Daddy's crash when stationed in Chitose. He was flying
wing when he had a fire and multiple systems failure in his F86, the
Lonnie E. He stayed with his plane to avoid having it go down on a
small populated area. By the time he tried to eject, nothing worked,
even canopy would not blow. He went down in water and was then
able to do underwater ejection. Broken back, leg, and arm prevented
him from getting out of the water. Other wing man landed his F86 in
the mud and saved Daddy. Took many months in hospital
at Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan and then Tokyo to recuperate. Time
was running out for him to get back into the air to maintain flight
status. In casts, he was helped into plane while guys turned away to
not see his getting help. He was able to continue his greatest love--
being a fighter pilot.
Anyone have memories of Daddy?

Comments: I am building a large scale model of Maj. George Davis's F-86E #51-2752... and need help.

There seems to be no photographs of this aircraft! Major Davis was shot down and killed by a Mig-15 on 10 February 1952. At the time he was the leading Korean War ace credited with 14 air victories in a very short period of time. For this he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

I have modeled aircraft for nearly 30 years and have accumulated a great deal of data and photos on the F-86 in general and the Korean War era birds in particularly and have NEVER seen a photo or a model of Major Davis's aircraft. In light of this man's record this is a tragic injustice. I would very much like to rectify this with a museum quality reproduction of his mount however I need help.

We know from his widow that Davis named his aircraft "Doris" but has no pictures to confirm personal markings, kill stars/symbols or unit badges. There must be a photo taken by ground crew, another pilot or other support personnel. If anyone has any information that might help in honoring this outstanding courageous pilot it would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Michael Caulk

Service or Relationship: Interested Person

Comments: The Texas Air Museum is building what is hoped to be the best exhibit on the air war over Korea in the U.S. The center of the display will be a tribute to Lubbock's own Major George A. Davis, Jr., who was the C.O. of the 334th FIS until he was KIA. We would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who knew Major Davis or who is willing to contribute personal effects to this exhibit. Thanks!
