Comments: I flew 101 Air Rescue combat missions during the Korean War primarily as a navigator on SA 16s amphibious aircraft during 1951 to 1953. I was involved in several missions that actually rescued downed pilots and crew members. I flew a few missions in the rescue B-17 and C-47 but mostly the SA -16.

Comments: As a dependent at Johnson in the fifties, my parents were friends
with the Grumman Representative that was airlifted to Korea to see
about retrieving a 36th SA-16. As I recall the story he and the men
there jury rigged a wooden hull and flew it out. Thought it was
amazing at the time and still do.
