Comments: I was Chief Clerk of the Orderly Room from September
1953 until December 23, 1953. I had a close friend
by the name of Nolan LeCompt who was my personnel
records clerk. Our CO was Major David C. Drake. He
was the only officer for the first couple of months
that I was there and then they sent a 2nd Luitentant
that was on little use. He was an officer because he
had graduated from college as a commercial artist. I
was only an Airman 1st Class because my AFC was
frozen and I could not be promoted. I was able to
get an early release and left the base on Dec 23, 52.

from Dog Patch. I am an Army Officer currently serving in Seoul,
Korea and had a replica of the jacket made, embroidery and all. Is
there anyone out there who knew my Dad? I have a great photo
album from the war as well and would be willing to scan and send
pictures. He passed away in 1997 at 65 years old.

Comments: I'm trying to get info on my deceased uncle that served
in Korea with the Air Force. I belong to Air Force-
Together We Served website and have started a memorial
profile for my uncle, Duane Welsh (dad says that it
could be Welch as Duane might have changed it). My
uncle got out as a TechSgt around the end of the war.
He settled in Wichita, Kansas but was originally from
Knoxville, Tennessee. From my dad, I know he was a very
good bomber mechanic and one mission he had to be flown
into North Korea along with others in a clandenstine
operation to fix and fly out a downed bomber. He has 4
grown kids (my cousins) who I have tried to learn
things from but they said their dad never mentioned his
wartime service or decorations.
Anybody that can help would be most appreciated! I
don't know if he was assigned to Wichita while he was
in Korea or what. After the war, I do know he was a
meat packer.
Thanks

Comments: My father, S/msgt George Straight passed on in Sept 2008. While looking through his memorabilia, I found out where he was stationed in Korea, and got curious. When Dad got out of the DC-3 in Wichita, Kansas after the war, I didn't even know which soldier was my father until he picked my Mom up and kissed her. I was 2 years old when he left, and 4 when he returned. George stayed in the USAF until he retired in 1962.

Comments: Hello,

I am writing on behalf of my father, Peter F. Barrett, who is an Air Force Vet. He served as an aircraft mechanic at Palm Beach AFB in the early 1950's. One night, as a 21 year old Corporal, he was awakened from a dead sleep by the tower saying a C-124's landing gear wouldn't descend. The plane had 2-3 officers on board as well as 2 airmen. He proceeded to try every trick in the book to get these guys to be able to manually rig the gear to release, as a belly landing would have meant the certain death of five people. After several attempts, and almost out of ideas, he got them to manually pull a certain cable by the wheels that made the gear descend. He lay awake all night just thinking what could have happened if he didn't succeed.

This event was never recognized or acknowledged by the Air Force at the time. Now my Dad is 76 years old, seriously ill with a heart disease, and has been ruminating about this event. It was a defining moment in his life, one he is extremely proud of. Is there someone out there who could direct me how to go about getting him a medal or some kind of recognition for saving these 5 lives? Peter was a mechanic, and not accustomed to accolades. He is a very shy and humble man, but his 5 kids would love to do this for him as we know it would mean the world to him.

Can you help us? Please e-mail me or call the number provided.

Thanks very much.

Mary Barrett Rimm

Comments: My father PAUL GLAGOVICH (SONNY) was in DOG PATCH his unit used the cartoon charactor of LIL ABNER as an airplane mechanic working on a plane. He served with the 18th Maintenance Squadron K1951.

His stories were pretty wild at times of what him and his buddies did for entertainment.

Anyone remember him? He stole a motorcyle from town and continued to hide it back in his camp and snuck in onto planes and transported to other locations when they would transfer him.

He told me of stories how the Koreans would string wire across the canyons and our planes would fly into them.

Any of this sound familiar to any of you that served with my father please contact me.
