Comments: Hello, looking for information on my grandad whilst he was in the Korean War and was wondering if anyone knew him , had any information, his whereabouts or where I could research further?

Units
HLI -APR 1951- OCT 1951
KOSB - OCT 1951 - DEC 1952
HLI - DEC 1952 - APR 1956

He would have been in his 30s as he was ww2 Veteran Serving with RSF, he spoke little of his time in Korea and I'm hoping to find out further info.

He had briefly told my dad small pieces of information over the years such as losing his stripes in an altercation with an officer - I have wondered if this was in the short spell in KOSB? - He may have been Military Police at this point? He also mentioned that he recieved MID in a battle where he held off the enemy at his machine gun post where they Korean/Chinese crept up a field towards their position over night. I'd love to know what battle this was?

I also have a photo of him with toddler that appears to be of Korean descent and unsure if this was his child or not!

If anyone could give me any details it would be appreciated

Many thanks for reading this
Luke

Comments: Hi

I am posting in the hope of gaining any information on Private James "Jimmy" Smiles who was killed 28 July 1952 age 19 years while serving with the King's Shropshire Light Infantry in Korea.

My late father had been a friend of Jimmys and had worked with him on the Grimsby fish docks, before Jimmy was called up for National Service. My father says he was killed while returning to british lines after a patrol into no mans land. He said the chinese were alerted to the patrols presence and open fired and Jimmy was killed.

My father had never mentioned anything previously about Jimmy until a recent emotional conversation, where he stated he wanted to try and get a local street named in honour of Jimmy as he was a forgotten casualty of a forgotten war.

Thank you for any information you may have.

My father Harry Clayton Driffill from Goole / Hull - East Yorkshire sadly passed away last year after never speaking about his time as a Royal Engineers in Korea.
He wrote about his life up to marry mum in 1957 so we'd hoped we would be able to fill the gaps then but no. Nothing!
He join the RE as part of National Service in Aug 1952
he went to Aldershot then onto No 9 Training Reg RE in Farnborough. He then qualified as a Deputy Clerk of Works Construction at the RE Depot in Chatham as a Cpl before volunteering for Korea.
The next we know is when his unit went to Hong Kong after the war. But there are no details of his unit etc
so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
