Comments: My father was a Lieutenant in the RCHA serving in Korea Special Forces approx 18 months from 1950 to 1951.
Sadly, he passed away in 2015.
He handwrote a diary in a small notebook. Much of it is readable, but the shorthand difficult to read. Some of it is in what looks lik military abbreviations.
I would like to get it published, but need to transcribe it as accurately as possible.
I would be very greateful if anyone who is familiar with the military would be interrested in taking a look at a few pages.
Much thanks, Ed Stoddart

Comments: I'm actually trying to get a copy of my father's military records & stumbled on this site. His name is Sgt. Stanley Garfield Wermie. He was born Feb 18/23 in Manitoba and died Oct 14/76. He lived in the Hamilton area. PPCLI are the initials on his gravestone, but other than that, I have no idea when he would have served in Korea or any other details. IF anyone who served with him stumbles upon this message, please email me. I know it's a long shot, but not impossible. Thank you

Comments: My birth father was originally from Saskatchewan. HIS father was born in Saskatchewan also in 1918. He was 5'10" tall, with brown reddish curly hair, weighing 160 lbs. He completed his senior matriculation and served with the Canadian Armed Forces in World War ll and in the Korean War. When he left the forces he became a salesman. He was active in his service association and enjoyed bowling. He must have moved his family to Toronto because that is where I was born in 1962. There were a total of 6 kids in the family, 5 boys (the oldest being my birth father) and 1 girl, the youngest. I truly realize this is a long shot, however someone who served in the Korean War may know of my birth father's father and could supply me with a name. Thank you.

Comments: Hi, my Dad...bill Hollingshead served in Korea 1951 and 1952 with PPCLI.
He never told the stories at least not to non coms.
Would anyone have any stories or memories?
I can't even find his service number. He did receive a partial pension for loss of hearing, a direct result of his time in Korea.
Was he in Kapyong? He did mention Mike Goss from Newfoundland and several Australian buddies. Would really like to fill in the blanks. All my male descendants were milirptary and I can find records for them, but not Dad.
He was from Ingersoll Ontario and has a street named after him, his father and brother for their heroism in War.
Thank you and God bless our soldiers..who knows where we would be without them

Comments: I have recently published EXCITEMENT! Shot At And Missed(Tate Publishing), remembrances of my brother, Sgt Ken Lonn, Mortars & Rockets Section Chief; F-2-5, 1st MarDiv. The book takes the reader on an exciting journey from hometown USA, through boot camp and a year (March 1951 - March 1952) in combat in Korea. The book recalls the good times and the not so good times, the laughs and the misery, the struggles and the accomplishments, of those Marines ... from combat veteran's first person view of the realities of war. Hill 812 is a central theme of the fighting. The book is dedicated to the men of F-2-5, as well as all those who served in that brutal war! My mission is to make people aware that the Korean War should never again be dubbed the forgotten war: Marine casualties numbered: 4,262 killed; 26,038 wounded. That's not a police action! That is WAR! Never forget!
The book is about U.S Marines, not Canadiens, but, in reality, it tells the story of all those who were there: the good and the bad times; the misery, the accomplishments, the struggles .... and, yes, the laughs!

Comments: Any members of 2RCHA who served in Korea 1951 to 1952 might recall the death of Gunner Takeshi Takeuchi, known as Ray or Ramond. Of Japanese Canadian origin, his family were resident in Montreal when Ray enlisted for service in Korea. I understand that he could have died in Japan following a signals course in the New Zealand Base Camp, Hiro, Japan around October/November 1951. If so he might have been buried in the British Commonwealth section of the military cemetery at Yokohama.
