My name is Barry J. Stein, author of "U.S. Army Heraldic Crests" and "U.S. Army Patches" (Univ. of S. Carolina Press.) I am beginning a new book project and I need help in documenting, for posterity, the finest moments in the histories of our country's air units (WWI to Present.) International Masters Publishing Co. of Stanford Ct will be the producers of this unique reference work.
My immediate task is to select those units who by their actions in combat or in humanitarian endeavors reflect most vividly the dedication and daring of America's Air Forces. Please nominate a unit, active or inactive and provide the following information:
1. Unit name and components
2. Current status and station (where applicable)
3. Brief description/citation of distinguishing missions/operations (their finest hour if you will)
4. Name of unit emblem worn during operations with description and heraldic significance of same
5. Honors received- both individual and unit for those operations
Acknowledgement of all contributors will be made for any information used. I will follow up with you after the initial response is received. If you have a newsletter or other organizational documents please advise in your reply and respond ASAP. I eagerly look forward to hearing from all interested parties.
