Comments: I have always been amazed how the men who fought and died in Korea have had their gallantry and suffering relegated to almost unknown status by history and the American Government and people in General. I have a book of poetry I wrote which is dedicated to the men who served with Task Force Faith. I wrote one poem about them.

Judgment day

I am here looking back, not looking ahead.

I now know one thing for sure, I am not yet dead.

I sit here thinking hard about what I am.

Just a jaded veteran of my Uncle Sam.

Though I have still one thing to this world to say.

For I am waiting on this mountain for my judgment day.

I was just eighteen, young, dumb and full of cum.

Then North Korea arose and the war had begun.

Drafted for the fodder, trained to stop the horde.

Then came the Chinese invasion to break MacArthur's sword.

I was sent just prior with great dash and élan.

My hell truly began just short of Chosin.

I was serving with pride, I was a US Army wraith.

My blind innocence ended serving in Task Force Faith.

Frozen bodies like cordwood were stacked to the sky.

Too God damned scared to worry if I would die.

Never having a moment, the fighting never did cease.

Later prayed for cold death as a final release.

Saw my friends disappear as my courage did fade.

Survived frostbite, two bullets and was promoted a grade.

So while I wait for my Maker I raise my fists and I say.

God send me back to those mountains to give them judgment day.

I am beginning research on my thesis pertaining to the "Veterans of the Forgotten War." A professor of mine commented one time that it was a shame that no historian had chronicled the story of the World War I Veteran. Now it is up to future historians to make sure the the story of Korean War Veterans is told. I would appreciate input and help from veterans. They are not forgotten and I want to tell their story. Thank you and May God Bless You All.

Comments: For your information, I am President of the Veterans Memorial Parkway Commission in Lake County, Indiana. Our mission is to honor all veterans of U.S. wars and conflicts since the inception of our nation along a 15 mile stretch of roadway through the center of the county. At this time, we are in the process of creating the Korean Veterans Memorial on a donated 2-acre parcel along the Parkway, the first parcel to be developed by the 4-year old Commission. This Memorial will include a walking trail, picnic shelter, 12-car parking lot and bicycle-related amenities since a rails-to-trails project is being developed adjacent to this property. Our Commission decided that the Korean Veterans needed to be honored since the Vietnam Veterans already have been honored with a memorial just down the road at a County park. At this time, I have put together a design committee to create a lasting and unique tribute to not only the war veterans, but also those who serve to this day in keeping the peace between North and South Korea. We intend on engraving the names of those soldiers who perished from Lake County in the Memorial. We are planning to unveil this Memorial at a dedication event sometime this summer. We will then pursue an aggresive fundraising effort to help expidite the construction of this Memorial.

As for your organization, I will approach the Commission members about a donation to the Friends of the Project. On behalf of the Commission, I thank you for all of your efforts to honor those who served in this brutal period of our Nation's history.
