Comments: Our outfit was located just north of Pusan. It was on the S. East Coast on a hill near a village called Huendae and near an Air Base where the 17th Bomb Wing (L) was located (either K10 or K11, I can't remember which). Our APO was 970. The Air Force provided us with logistic support. Ours was the only US Coast Guard unit located in Korea. We set the station up in late '51 and were in full operation shortly after in providing LORAN (Long Range Aid to Navigation) support to ships and aircraft engaged in the Korean War effort. The crew consisted of about 20 Coast Guard personnel. One Officer served as CO.

Comments: I am glad to see this site honoring Korean War Veterans. I served in Viet Nam 1968-1969 as a 1st Lieutenant 4.2 Mortar Platoon Leader with 1/69th Armor 4th Inf. Div. I have the deepest respect for all who served in this Honorable effort .
I am currently in the process of starting a business that is based on an automotive accessory that will be involved with the display of many diverse logo's and subject matter. I intend to provide examples of military units and commemorative ribbons in this effort.
I will include the Viet Nam and Korean Campaign Service ribbons from the inset. This will be a product that should be available by the 1st of the year 2001. More information for any interested parties can be obtained at www.myfanpride.com
Please do not find this statement disrespectful. I found this site while looking for an example of the Korean Service Ribbon and thought this a good opportunity to inform Korean Vet's of my product. Possibly I can work some kind of a donation from my company to Your Memorial Project from the sales of My Military Based Auto Grille Badges. Any ideas towards this end gratefully accepted.

After indoor ceremonies at the War Memorial Building, Gay and Fayette Streets in Baltimore, we march three blocks to the Monument to Black Soldiers, in front of the Clarence Mitchell, Jr. Courthouse to lay a wreath. 2001 will be the 13th consecutive year of this endeavor. Comments: Well, I'm not an American, much less was an American soldier during the Korean War, but I have read several books on Korean War and the American involvement in it and I would like to thank and appreciate the efforts that the Americans had and still have poured in Korea to defend it and for the sacrifice of young Americans who died in foreign land, far away from their homeland and families and for other former American soldiers who survived the war. Whatever the merit, purpose or the result of the war, one fact stands out that South Korea is now a free and democratic country, something which would not be possible had it not been for tens of thousands of young american who fought the North Korean, the Chinese and even the severe winter. For you all, I thank you deeply and my hat is off for all of you!!!

i would like to know briefly what you were doing in japan, how long you stayed, particularly i am interested in any personal reminiscences regarding your contact with the japanese. how did japan seem to you, so soon after the end of ww2? how were you treated by the japanese? do you have any knowledge of how japanese were living at that time, shortages, rationing etc? how did the countryside/ cities look? to what extent had rebuilding begun? how was the transport system, especially in relation to the tokyo area? anything along these lines would be most welcome. photos would be greatfully received. they will of course be returned.
