Comments: My name is Tom Bisping and I am the MidStates North Regional Director for the Korean Defense Veterans Alliance. Please be advised that bills have been submitted to the United States House of representatives and to the United States Senate, for the creation of a service medal for service in Korea after 27 July 1954. In the House the Bill is H.R. 1935. In the Senate the Bill is S.999. The Bill is entitled the Korean Defense Service Medal Act. PLEASE do the following: Go to the KDVA website: http://home.att.net/~kdrrc/index.htm Click on the "Legislation" button. See if your Representative or Senators are cosponsors. If they aren't, call them and tell them to support either H.R. 1935 or S.999. Get as many people as you can to do the same. Click on the "Organization" button. Find out what region your state is in and e-mail that Regional Director. This is the best opportunity there has ever been for recognition. Join the fight and be with us as we, "Take The Hill!!!"

climbing over the mountain to get to the mess hall
for those who where there in 1995. getting drunk down range and not being able to make it back to camp. i do miss all those south koreans i tried to run over with my tank. i truly feel they were the real enemy. the north koreans were cool. they never tried to steel anything from us, beat us up,
protest, burn our flag, make money off of us being
there etc. not many people will feel the way i do
but we r all entitled to our opinion. after my one year there i have earned the right to say what i want on this issue

Comments: just reading some of these messages brought back so many memories. I was at rc4 compound, just on the other side of the village sanga ri, we were the last "attack" btry there, i believe it was turned over to the ROK army, just down the road was camp pelham. some of my memories are thunder runs in the vill, jungle juice, catching the "slicky boys" stealing our old mre's,trying to make it back from tdc when the sirens went off and paying the taxi driver $100.00 to get us there fast as he could, pulling U.P. duty at rc4 and pellham and dealing with all the drunks as they came back in from the vill, hearing the shouts of "turtle!!" when someone would drop a tray in the chow hall, the "parasite" club in the vill. P.S. though there were some tense moments, the people were great and it was one of the best years of my life, if anyone was there at the same time i'd like to hear from you.

Comments: I was recon 1/23rd Camp Hovey 1980'. During our 3 months at the DMZ we would sit on the sandbags with beers and watch ROK flares and hear their .50 cals. They fired those big things because of superiour range. One night on GP Ollette I was in a bunker with a startlight scope. I panned accross the fenceline and caught a NK looking right at me with an IR scope. In a fraction of second he was gone. We also found hollow haystacks on patrols. I sure drank a lot of Crown in the ville too. Too many road marches too. Pres. Regan got shot and we thought we were going to war. Cancelled all overnight passes too.

Comments: I was stationed in Korea in January of 1990, and by the end of Feburary we were up in the DMZ for the 3 month rotation. At the time it was called "Warrior Base" but it's no longer there from what I here. I actualy did three rotations because 2/503 disbanded when we got back, and I went to the unit that relieved us, so I went back up again for a second rotation. Then when we came back from that rotation the mechanized unit I was in got rid of all the leg infantry guys, so we went to a leg unit and that unit was allready on the DMZ so I only spent about 1 1/2 months up there with them....definatly saw my share of communists and the DMZ.....it was fun though I realy enjoyed patrolling. I was on all three American guard posts, "Guard Post 128" "Guard Post Collier" and "Guard Post Ollete".....

Comments: I served in Korea from Jan95-Jan96 in Aco 5/501st Avn (Attack) with the 17th Avn Brigade (Combat Aviation) however the unit at Eagle I was in is now 6th Cav. I remeber many cold nights and training constantly for the opertunity to give some NKPA's the ultimate opportunity to die for thier country. I remeber once infiltation incident in OCt when a few infiltators attempted to slip accross the Z and the RoK guard threw a few frags and opend up with the 60, however a couple slipped through and it was a few days before the KNP finally aprehended the other one of which was shot south of seoul and the other was a known asassain by intel. None the less I remeber great times and hard work and the sense of a real mission. Christmas was especially hard being away from my wife and daughter who first year I missed completely. However I remeber the surprise presents Captain DeVille had for everyone at Christmas, evedentally he contacted all our familys and had them send us gifts which we had no knowledge of then on Christmas during the company dinner he announced he had something for us and had TOP bring in all the gifts , we thought they bought em till we opend them and noticed our familys handwriting and gifts. He ws the greatest commander I ever had. I remeber a few nights we spent at Warrior Base and listening to the propaganda music and all the FTX's we did. If any one was with me email me.
