Comments: Just curious if any one has attempted to receive their CIB(retroactively)-The US ARMY recently rescinded their stringent and biased requirements on issuance ,for those who served on the DMZ Korea(it was almost impossible to receive). The NEW inclusive dates are///Korea on the DMZ (4 January 1969 to 31 March 1994)- and the Joint Security Area,Panmunjom,Korea(23 November 1984).I started a claim W/ABCMR- and it was returned w/o predjudice, because i didnt exaust all administrative remedies available to me,so my application is in the process of review @//// Commander,US ARMY Human Resource Command,ATTN:AHRC-PDO-PA,200 Stovall Street,Alexandria,Virginia 22332-0471.I have always had a hard time explaining to people that upon departure from "Foward Friendly Lines",at the southern boundary of the DMZ,"we" were actively engaged in a routine course of squad sized patrolling and ambush operations,to prevent and disrupt NKPA forces from openly conducting patrols, and deny enemy infiltration routes in and through the DMZ,although "we" never received a CIB.Any questions ,comments,or experiences attempting to receive the CIB retro-actively are appreciated.

Comments: Over 1,400 Currahees have made the supreme sacrifice for our country. You may have known some of them. But what you may not know is that there is no single memorial to all the soldiers of our Regiment who have been killed in action. This situation is about to change. Work has already started on a memorial, but your help is needed. At present, there is a need to raise $38,000. This is the unfunded dollar amount required to complete this memorial. This tribute to our fallen is being paid for by people like you. The Army has provided the land; however, soldiers, and veterans, along with Currahee friends and family, will have to come together if we are to complete this project. Now is the time to step up and take action. Check out the 506th Association web page www.506infantry.org/projectstable.html to see what the memorial will look like and how you can make this dream a reality.

The NCo club, the enchanting nightlife in SonyuRi, and who can forget, the Yakimandu with ketchup and ramen with cheese at 3 a.m. after a night of hanging out with your buddies drinking Soju and OB beer.
The "black marketing" of mess hall cheese/MREs, the bus rides to Camp Casey and Soul, and the COLD nights of guard duty in the field, Ayima's tent of goddies in the field (she knew the exact coordinates where we were jumping to before the BC did).
And who can forget the mess hall food, creations of SFC Santiago (PiNueve)? Big Bird (CSM)? $12 case of Bud at the mini PX? Sneakin out ofcamp on Sat nights without a pass with your 1SG and a crew in the back of a Hummer?
Anyways, hope to hear from you crazy SObs soon!

I lost my grandmother, who raised me, after I first arrived and I had a newborn who I had not even met yet because neither of you two would approve my leave.
You two decided to strip me of all I had worked for and kept me in country one month over my tour to teach me a lesson...???
The truth is that your boldness taught me an early lesson about the military. I once had hopes to make a career of the Army but you two shattered that abruptly.
I decided to make a better future for myself and I did just that!
The dark cloud that covered quickly diminished when I decided to take things into my own hands.
While on extra duty, I wrote numerous letters and faxed MANY every night to my Senator. Whom we all know as Max...but names are not important. What is important is the truth. I also mailed letters to others of upper echelon because it seemed I had no support in my corner. Which is 100% true!
I was receiving NO PAY DUES for MANY MANY months. Nearly 8 months of that went on. I could not get my own company to approve advance pays for me. Nobody and I mean nobody would help me!
I did find help!
Someone who FINALLY LISTENED! Thank You Max! I just like Max as the character, so deal with it.
I was handed a field grade Article 15. E-4 promotable lowered to E-1. Loss of 1/2 pay for 2 months. Extra Duty for 45 days. I turned that all around by sticking up for what is right. I made someone listen by not giving up. I never gave up. I did all the things that the Army had taught me to do but what I did not do is give into the BS which I was being fed!
I fought and won. I received all the proper back pay, 8 months worth! I was still able to use my G.I. Bill and pursue a very lucrative life!

No this is not another reunion, nor is it just a gathering of veterans. This is something very special and will be remembered for its unique approach to the homecoming of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 506th Infantry Regiment. Our regiment is currently deployed to Afghanistan and COL Pete Johnson, Regimental Commander, has decided to have a three day celebration when the troops return to Fort Campbell. Plans are now being made and YOU are invited. That is correct, all 506th Veterans are invited to attend CURRAHEE RENDEZVOUS 2009. Although the Currahees will return to CONUS in late winter or early spring, in order to allow for block leave and event planning, the Rendezvous is scheduled for May 28- 30, 2009.

Comments: I served in Korea and didn't do a Z mission. I got there in nov 90, when the 1/5th was on the Z. The powers to be decided not to send me there, and I had to wait to join my unit when they got off the DMZ. I was with HHC 2nd Brig, and then went to HHC platoon, TOW section, Dco 1/5 inf. I was there until july 91, and went to Eco after the 1/5 th transitioned to Bradly Fighting Vehicles. My MOS was 11-H. Thats why I did't go to the DMZ in the summer. The whole Bradly trasition. They sent The 503rd instead. Which to my understanding, was the last DMZ mission for the 2nd ID. The US turned over The US Army's section of the Z to the Rok Army in the fall of 91. But I have a lot of crazy memories from my time in The ROK. I went to Ft Carson and finished my time in the army there. It wasn't the same, Korea was a wooh place to be in The Army. Allthough I don't miss sleeping in -35 degree weather, or the smell. But I took lots of photos, which is what i do now. I work as a photographer, and im hoping to start my own bussiness someday. Some guys Im hoping to hear from are grey, booth, wolf, deville, dupont, or anybody that served with the 1/5th.

Comments: my name is brian stearns and remember an attack during 1995. i was in 3rd platoon charlie company 1/506th. my platoon sgt, myself, and another specialist set a cratering charge in the path of a t-72 (may have been t-55). the charge didn't explode on time for someone cut the time fuse too long. inadvertantly, myself and platoon sgt caught some flack from the damned thing when it did go off. we went out to check the situation out since we lost track of the tank. sometimes i have nightmares about it and the tank fired a round between the two of us whcih blew platoon sgt's leg off. I remember doing first aide on him for some time before our platoon medic found us.
whole battalion went on twenty-four hour alert. I got shot in the head (protected by kevlar) and both hips (again protected by kevlar vest and two ammo pouches. they truly saved my life.
everynight I look out windows before going to bed looking for the one who shot me. don't suppose i'll ever find him.
my brother and cousin were both stationed there down south around casey. they stepped outside one of there barracks to have a smoke and fell through the ground where koreans dug a tunnel. didn't catch any of the little guys though.
can't say i remember much about the tank incident other than that. sometimes some of the other guys from my platoon show up. sometimes the medic never shows up. it's like i am reliving the attack over and over again. every time is different though. Sometimes recall an attack on AHA while i was on guard that night at Charlie gate.

Comments: I served in Korea from September 1991 to September 1992. I was stationed at Camp Hovey in the 1/5 Infantry in Echo Company. We were the tow-gunner guys that drove around in M901 ITVs. We didn't have Humvees when I was there. I'm trying to track any of the old guys I was stationed with to see what they're up to these days. Here's some names that I can remember:
Chris King from Illinois, Kerry Hamilton from Texas, Kirk Sells from Indiana, Tad Casey from New York, Erik Kvalvik from New York, Alton "Joey" Broome. I can only remember the last names of the following guys: Botset, the big brother named Coppage, Jeff Abernathy from Mississippi I think.
