Service or Relationship: Army Veteran
Comments: My dad is still alive and in good health thankfully. If anyone served alongside him I'd be interested in hearing from you.
He battled in Haman, Korea on August 2nd, 1950 as a corporal. According to the War Department, the platoon was attacking enemy positions when the M-8 armored car, in which Corporal Hedrick was gunner, was struck by enemy anti-tank fire and disabled. Upon dismounting the remaining member of the tank crew along with several other soldiers of the unit were pinned down by heavy enemy ortar and machinegun fire. Corporal Hedrick, with utter disregard for his own personal safety, exposed himself continuously to the heavy enemy fire and directed fire upon the enemy weapons, destroying them, and enabled the surviving crew members to withdraw along with several wounded to safe positions.
He spent one month in the hospital in Japan and rejoined his company. After serving 22 years and receiving 2 purple hearts, he retired Sergeant Major.
