Might anyone have any insights about the black and white Korean War photos I found in the back of a used furniture store in DC? The former owner appears to have belonged to the 7th Infantry Division of the 8th Army Korea. https://twitter.com/joycenicholash1/status/1041060162906324994
He may have belonged to the 7th Medical Battalion based of his friends' uniforms. Please visit my Twitter page... @joycenicholash1.

Comments: We are very pleased to let everyone know that a family member found Capt. Hughes' Bronze Star document and we now know what he did on
October 9, 1950 at Onchon-Ni.
A division convoy en route to Pusan was ambushed on that date and Captain Hughes went onto the battlefield, under fire, to administer medical care to, and evacuate the wounded.
We also discovered that he served with the 7th Medical Battalion Clearing Company.
If anyone remembers Dr. Hughes, who has since passed, would you be so kind as to contact us? We are in the early stages of publishing Dr. Hughes' Korean letters and drawings to his then four-year old daughter.

He tells a funny story about cleaning his ambulance in the creek, not realizing he drove through a mine field to get in the creek. The marines came and flagged the area to drive his ambulance out. Of course everyone got a good laugh. He would love to hear from any old buddies or anyone that served when he did.

Comments: In my search for the story of my Granduncle, Medic Glenn Runge (KIA Operation Showdown 10/14/1952), I received a copy of a letter sent to Glenny's sister, Joyce Briggs, in 1953 from a James F. Shine from Maryland. James had written that Glenny was assigned to his platoon, and was killed by enemy mortar while he was carrying a wounded soldier to safety. James was also carrying a wounded man but was far enough in front of Glenny that he was not fatally injured by the blast. James wrote that Glenny had been injured prior to picking up the wounded solider, and was out of medical supplies.
My mother, brother, and I are faithfully searching for anything we can find about Glenny's life and death in Korea. We have been captivated by his story and the depth of love we see for him in those who knew him. We want to share his story with the children who follow us to ensure his memory stays alive in our family as completely as possible.
A critical piece of information we are missing in finding out more about his last days is the platoon to which he was assigned.
So if you are or know James F. Shine or remember Glenn Runge, I would very much appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.

He was also one of the men to hold the capitol bldg on the 38th parrell for ten days. He was awarded the silver star (he blew up an enemy amo train) and 5 bronze stars and several other medals including one from the Korean government. He was also a P.O.W. captured with 6 other men by the Chinese and taken to a holding camp. They escaped by cutting a hole in the fence. The Chinese chased them to the Yalu river which took about 8 days. Only three of the 7 men who escaped survived the river. The names my dad remembers of the 7 men are Rodrigues(died by gunfire in the yalu river), Johnston(survived the escape), Galk( survived the escape), and my dad James Lee Hall(survived the escape with the help of Galk who went back in the Yalu river to help him) They were taken back to Japan for physicals and recuperation. My dad was a little over 6ft. 3in tall and only weighed 130lbs.He was on the USS Briggs which broke the record for time on his trip home, 6 days!! He was in the 7th division and 1st calvery Regiment. Thank You, Patti Martin
