Comments: My grandfather, William Jacquette, served as an ambulance driver in the ambulance company (or possibly HQ Company), 115th Medical Battalion, 40th Infantry Division from SEP 1952 - SEP 1953.
He passed away years ago, and never talked about his service, but I'd like to learn about what he did, what his unit did, where they were located in Korea, or anything else. I'm trying to put together some information for his wife (my grandma).
Please let me know if you have anything that may help. Thank you very much.
-Tim

Comments: I am seeking information about my grandfather Lt. Richard L Smythe who served with the 40th Infantry Division in Korea between 1952-53. He was a surgeon by training and did medical officer OCS at Fort Sam Houston before deploying to Korea by way of Japan. As I understand it, he ran a battalion aid station or clearing station in a sandbag bunker somewhere along or near the Punchbowl.
He stated the aid station was above or near to a Turkish mine field and was reached by means of a camouflage net covered road which was in view of Communist Forces. He also stated that nearby was an artillery unit that always seemed to fire right when their jeeps were transiting forward of their position. Several cases he remembered were evacuating some men injured in a breech failure, a soldier wounded in the nearby minefield, and a soldier mortally wounded by a M2 50 caliber machine gun that was not properly cleared before movement.
I am looking for anyone who might have served with my grandfather and for more general information as to where specifically he might have been stationed while in Korea.
All the best,
John Holman

Comments: For those who served with this unit in Korea. Robert K. Schmidt (my father) passed away on Jan 21st, 2005. He always spoke fondly of his fellow soldiers. He also encouraged me to become a Navy Corpsman which I did and retired after twenty years service. I've been working on my dad's shadow box for some years and cannot find the patch of your unit. Would appreciate any help. Sincerely, Jeffrey K. Schmidt.

Comments: I am the director of the California State Military Museum located in Sacramento.
We would like the former members of the 40th ID to know that we have established a archives here at the museum. We are making a major effort to preserved the photos, records, and papers of the members of the division and make them available to historians, researchers, and family members.
The current 40th ID HQ has already transferred all of their photos from WWII, the official 40th Signal Co combat camera set as well as other collections of the Division's history.
If you can get this out to your members, we would appreciate it.
