Comments: I have My Grandfather's photo album he made during the war. It is tied & held together by his bootlaces. I would like to go through and scan these and upload them here--or elsewhere for that matter--so that others maybe can find their folks too & these memories aren't lost. The photos I have are of happy times with comrades--mostly swimming and their time in Japan.
His name was Herman Brinkley Jr. "Big Ears." He was 3rd Infantry Medical Battalion--guarded the doctors & could administer morphine. He was part of the army's first landing into Korea during a storm, where they lost their Major & then their "Spectacular retreat" to the river. He was at Chosin Reservoir and the Battle of White Horse Hill, amongst others.
Please let me know how & where to upload these to.
Warmest regards & Bless you all,
-Jessica

the difference between Medical Corp and Medical Battalion, or is there?? In a Jan 4 1952, Long Beach Calif newspaper article it used Army 5th Medical Corp, maybe they used the wrong description.
Thank you very much

I have a letter regarding my father being a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. My father died in 1989 and I had not seen him since 1970. He left our family and we did not know where he was until his passing in 1989.
I would appreciate any information you may have or any resources you could direct to me.

Comments: Comments: My grandfather served from July 21st 1949 to April 2nd 1953. He is still alive and in relatively good health and wants to reconnect with some old friends if they can be found.
He was in Fort Benning Ga when the war broke out. He drove a medical Jeep, was TDY to the 15th infantry, and their keyword was kindness... he remembers all of this. He was at white horse, Porkchop hill, Heartbreak Ridge, and Chosin Reservoir, where almost everyone got killed. doctors were parachuted down but they were shot out of the sky. He remembers being on a mountain and just as far as you could see there were military trucks with people stacked up like cordwood.....
He was in communications for a time, operating a switchboard on a mountain. Lightening run in on him and threw him across the room, damaged his hearing a bit but otherwise he was fine. He was a cook for a day, accidentally gave their newly trained southern korean soldiers dysentery...they wanted sugar on everything so he loaded their plates up with sugar... and it sent them to the hospital. He wasnt a trained medic but he was in the makeshift hospitals there.
He landed at Wonsan, north korea, lost a major in the stormy seas, and his backpack. They were pushed off into the ocean, burning brand new trucks and barrels of munitions. they were put on local ships and carried to pusan to march back around.
He was almost court marshaled for letting two korean children eat out of the trash bins. Instead of shooting them, he shot up into the air to scare them off. they put him in a cell and he knew they werent allowed to shoot in the barracks, so when his supper came to him he knocked the guard out with the door and made a run for it. the guard shot at him, hitting him in the thumb so papaw gave up then.
i know he and this other boy stole a chicken from a farm on thanksgiving. They didnt even have shoes that fit them, but McArthur promised every soldier a turkey dinner. They had nothing and it was 32 below...they were too scared to light a fire and cook the chicken though because the fighting was just on the next hill...
he remembers a beautiful village in japan with sulfur springs, him and his buddy getting their rickshaw driver drunk once and taking turns pulling each other around town.
i think he remembers being under MG Cross... hopefully i can edit this page later and add more information.
thank you everyone. <3
im not sure how this will post, but Herman still lives in NC. He was born in Henderson and his nickname was Big Ears. He is half indian.

Comments: My grandfather was in the 3rd infantry division, 3rd medical BN. I did some searching through my grandfathers old photos and documents from the Korean war and discovered that he was a staff Sgt. in the 3rd infantry division. His name is Adolph Cave, from Virginia. He was a combat medic who flew bubble-like choppers and also drove trucks. In one of the photos it said HQ. Co. 3rd medical BN. I also found out that he was driving a 2 1/2 ton truck (deuce and a half) with 6 other people in the truck on the way through the Iron Curtain when he hit a tank mine and it blew up. All of the passengers were killed, but my grandfather survived. I have a list of names, some may be nicknames or just last names, and some may be spelled wrong, but these were the names I made out on some of his old photos. If I could find some of these people, or even relatives that would be great. The names are Tex, Campbell, Mac, Harwood, Pat Knepp, McClosky, Warnth, Jarok, Joe (ROK solider), Hatem, Red, Adkins. My grandfather found a dog while over in Korea and they kept the dog with them while they were there. They named the dog Hamp, he had a broken leg sometime duriing their stay there.
This is all of the information that I have right now. If you could give me some guidance as to where to search, or if you have any information to give me it would be appreciated. My grandfather is suffering with Parkinson's and he is going down hill fast. I want to get this video tribute finished as soon as I can before it is too late.
Thanks,
Jennifer Crider
