found the name of his unit looking through his old Army papers.
He was born in Fresno, CA, April 12, 1934 and passed away on June 10, 2010 in
Colorado Springs, CO. He was married to Vel Mae Pitcock of Portervile, CA, and had
six children: Pam, Steven, Gwendolynn, Dennise, Gregory, and Jennifer.
I recently digitized some personal photos he had from his time in Korea, and have
provided a link to these photos on Google Photos

There were no names of the other soldiers on any of these photos, so I am unable to
provide any additional information. You are welcome to search these photos in case

Comments: I am trying to locate any members of L Co. 3rd Bn. 5 RCT from July 1950 to end of 1951, especially those who would have known my father 1LT Oliver King. Fresh out of Univ. of Hawaii ROTC in June 1950, he was one of only two surviving officers in Love Company after the first 4 months. Lt King was recommended for the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions in stopping a massive NKA dawn attack with a handful of men on Sept. 1, 1950. The vast majority of his company apparently retreated once the attack started. The actions of the very few Love Co. men who held firm in their positions likely saved 3rd Bn.and 5RCT HQ, as well as their own CP.
Subsequently his Bn. and Division Commanders approved an award for DSC. Unfortunately the heroic men who stood their ground and fought with him on the hill that day were soon killed or evacuated back to the States with severe wounds during the push to the Yalu. Without their supporting statements, Lt. King's DSC recommendation was downgraded by DoD to a Silver Star. I have the trail of paperwork from National Archives that shows this unjust decision. My father endured significant PTSD later on from his service in Korea, Love Co. (and 5RCT) suffered horrendous casualties during those first 6 months. He died at age 42 in 1970.
Would love to hear from any veterans who served in Love Company 3rd Bn. or their family members. I especially want to honor the memories of MSG Hiram Ke (KIA), and SFC Arthur Meyer (WIA), Silver Star winners and senior NCOs who did not abandon my father, when he decided to stay and fight on the hill that morning. As a Vietnam-era and Cold War NCO vet, I salute all the men who fought with 5RCT in Korea.

My Uncle Peter LaClare was with the 5th RCT and was captured on April 22nd 1951 after being wounded during the CCF spring offensive.
The 5th RCT was attached to the 24th Division.
My uncle passed in 2002, I have started looking into family history and I would like to know where the 24th was on Apr 22 1951, on the day he was captured. I spent some time in the field with my unit, have been to the DMZ, I have seen Panmunjong and the bridge.
I believe that I walked some of the same ground my uncle walked. How close was the 24th to Tong Duc Chon? Can anyone tell me?
Thanks

book and was going to let me know more about that battle.
My email address was changed and I lost his email
address. They would never tell my mother how he was
killed. His name was Vance Raymond McQuiston and he was
know as Ray. If you have any information I would love
to hear from you.

Comments: Looking for anyone who may have known my father,
Ernest (Ernie) Thomas. He was in Hawaii in June of
1950 and was shipped to Korea in July. He was with
the 5th Regimental Combat Team attached to the 24th
artillery as a forward observer. He was critically
wounded in either Feb or March of 1951. He never
liked to talk of his time in Korea, but he passed
away four years ago and I would like to make contact
with any one who could give me information on his
time in Korea.
God bless all of you and thank you for your service.

Comments: My father, Thomas A. Stoy, was a replacement who
reported to the 5th RCT in mid to late August 1950 or
early September while it was on the Pusan Perimeter.
He was wounded in the fighting at Hill 268 near
Waegwan between 16-19 September.
Not having been there long, he does not remember his
chain of command or his specific unit. He remembers
his platoon leader being a Lieutenant Shannon.
He was a rifleman and assistant in a grenade launcher
team. He was wounded with shrapnel in the face. He
was evacuated and did not return to Korea. If anyone
might remember him, or be able to provide me
information on medical clearing stations which
supported the 5th RCT in the fighting at Waegwan, I
would be very grateful. He was serving in Berlin
with the 16th Infantry when he volunteered to go to
Korea and went there as part of a platoon of 30
personnel to be replacements. Thank you.

Comments: My grandfather was named Thomas Edwin Greek and he was in the Korean
War from 1951 - 1953, was a cook from what I last heard, not sure how
much action he was involved with though. I'm researching genealogy
and just as I was about to get info on his time in Korea he passed away in
Sept 2009. I wanted to see (a huge long shot) if anyone knew him, has
stories, just anything I guess as I start to piece together locations of
photos I have and what his life was like there.
After the war he became a masonry man and worked construction, cement
work, etc.
