Comments: I got to muna the same day President Kennedy was assassinated Nov 1963 Mar 1965. I was a tower guard in the (back area)and lived in the 2rd building on the left and most of the guards were ass holes. I had a buddy named Reed and he had a 1957 chev conv. and Denise Reed who was wounded in nam in 66. The last thing i did in muna was paint the pine trees on the common white. (article 14). There was a guy who lived over the fire station but can't remember his name. Did a lot of drinking and rasing hell guess i had a good time don't remember much about it.

Comments: Was an MP at Muenster from 1975 to 1976, came to the unit as an E-2 and left as an E-4. Enjoyed the beer, the people and the great food. I remember: both Vern "Bigtime", and Mike.

I saw J.J. Fiel down at ROTC advance camp (Ft.Riley), in 1980 but didn't go on with the ROTC program for myself.

I also rember; Lt. Fair, Lt. Arnold, Lt. Bright, Lt. Igman, Hoover, Joe Liverar, Fred Ruffner, Peanut, Sgt. Sully Dansby, SFC Fletcher, Sgt. Jones, Sgt. David Lynch, and numerous others.

Hope you all who have served at Muenster Kaserne are doing well.

Comments: I arrived at the "Muna" in Jan 1954 and left in May '55. Supply clerk for the above company. Everday except weekends, the guys would head out to Darmstadt, where they baked all the bread for the 7th army. There was another company also stationed there. It was a salvage company, whatever that meant. Bunch of bad apples there. I came as an occupation soldier and left as an ally. The occupation officially ended during my term. I revisited the Muna three times, in 1979, 95, and 97. Each time it was different. They had pretty much removed it by the last visit.

Would sure like some pictures.

Comments: Hi Guys,

A friend of mine just found this site when he googled for "Muna" and "Muenster bei Dieburg". We're from Muenster Germany and are very interested in the "Muna Depot". Unfortunately we were to young when the US forces were based there, so we only know the stories about the depot, and there are a lot.
If you are interested in information exchange about the Muna Depot and Muenster you can write me an email. I would be very happy !

I remember taking the back road to Dieburg. I went there for snitzel, pomfritz and German friends.

In the old WW2 bukers we had hundreds of A weapons and tower rats to guard them. There was violations of the Atomic Agency rules and investigators came from Washington. Thank God the extremists never stole any of them.

Comments: Hi - I served at MbD from 71 - 73. It was overall very good duty, they left us alone mostly - had my own room, the first barracks on the left as you drove through the gate, next to the 2-lane bowling alley - when you went up the back stairs, my room was at the top of the stairs. Ludwigs was the (only) place to go within walking distance, but I had a total of 3 vehicles while I was there, all VW station wagons - most interesting one was the one with no brakes and the hood flew off while going down the autobahn (I owned the car with few of my buddies, I wasn't with them during that misadventure). Hashish was very prevalant then but (ahem) but for the record I did not inhale anything - like I say, they pretty much left us alone. While I was there they built new bunkers and moved the back area - the original back area was creepy, man. The dudes rotating out of 'Nam were the tower guards, some of them pretty messed up but we all got along. When they built the new bunkers they also built a new facility inside the wires where I worked every day - I was 35F, nuclear weapons electronics technician, but I rarely messed with electronics, just screwed around mostly all day with the other guys, mostly calibrating torque wrenches from the guys in the field. Earl Ralph Wendorf from Chicago, we were in training together in Huntsville, then Albuquerque and MbD - also John Dubbeldee from Minnesotta who abandon us there by taking an early out to do the NG thing. Wendorf and I worked for Mr. Jewart (CW4) - what a character! He and I made a trip to Permisans (near the French border) to pick up something and started drinking as soon as we left the gate. Dave Severinni from California the company clerk was a good buddy (Wooden Ships and citrole, remember Dave?) - I hung also with Earl Frank ("Pat") Patterson (como) from Birmingham, Alabama and Daryl T Quicho ("Cooch") from Hawaii. David Seipel also. Life was pretty good there, enjoyed travelling all around Europe. I also ran the bookstore in the mornings then sold snacks at the theater at night. I was getting pretty short when we got a new Sergeant, Sgt. Doyle, he was a prick and set about making life difficult for everbody who lived on base - he wanted to shock us back into army life but nobody was having any of it. Anyway, would love to hear from anybody there during that time.

Just checking in here. Jim Baker here, and I served at Muna from Dec72 to Jul76. We had us a few alerts, did some crazy things, and generally had a good time. Kind of wonder what happened to everyone. I went full time in Active Guard Reserve in Texas, and then into the machine shop. You could dig the strangest things out of the ground there...Dave Morgan passed on in 92 I believe, of a heart attack. Got to see him at Ft Hood a few times. Hope everyone is well and happy.

2.www.rk-dieburger-land.de/muna2.htm
This site has PICS of Munsters Guard shack,a Tower (1) and parts of the old Luftwaffe Factory. These pics were taken (And public record)by a group of Local and Government Officials on tour of the site. For people stationed there before 1976,the concrete tower replaced the wooden-1 closest to the guard house.
3.www.koreanwar.org/html/units/545ord.htm
This site has NO PICS, but does have many entries by soldiers and family stationed at Munster Kaserne. You just have to read through the entries.-Not hard.
4.Muenster Kaserne (Called "Muna" by the locals) is now known as Bielefeld. It is a suburb of Munster. It has a Factory, Shops and a "Disco" type dance Bar.
I hope the PICS bring back memories and smiles.

Would give anything to go back in time for a week or so. I was there in 1964-66. I loved the German countryside where I would take my bike rides on days off. I especially loved the rolling hills of Odenwald. The German people were wonderful and very patient with us young fools.
I did a little research and found out that there
was a Hell of a battle in Aschaffenburg between Patton's men and a fair sized German SS unit supported by armor. Quite a number of our guys died in that battle. It was during the early spring of 1945.
To find out more, type into your search engine: Battle of Aschaffenburg.

Had to swim out in the fire pond and clean up beer cans in the back area just 20 min. before the CO made a rare inspection. Anybody remember those days?

Comments: I was an 11B, assigned to the guard platoon from May, 1965-November 1966. I remember SSG Obenchain and SGT Higgs. I managed the four lane bowling alley alone with SGT Walker who was with the ammo section. Left there in November 1966, to attend Ordnance OCS. CO was CPT, later, MAJ Jerry K. Patterson. Family quarters were in Babenhauser. Fond memories. MAJ(R) Ewing Lawson

Comments: I was in the 545th in Germany 1967-68. I was not aware of any history, including Korea. I recall Major Ed Snow, Captain Coleman, the club outside the gate, Monday morning reveille, short rations for the officers, a barber shop and a tailor on the post. And a lot of guided missiles and nukes. And the bunkers were they were stored. The real scare came in more recent times watching Scud missiles zooming aimlessly around the Persian Gulf and realizing that they were probably clones of the Honest John rockets we had.

Comments: I was stationed with the 545 in Germany from Jan. '68-Oct. '69 as a documents clerk and also pulled guard duty in the notorious "back area", the coldest place I've ever been. Some of the guys I remember-McCarthy, Cpl. Tibbetts, Bill Rodriguez from Oklahoma, Rod Pearson, Lt. Newman, Ernest Dents, Cpt. Barr, Jack Shine from CA.. Does anyone remember the door with rabies that we fished out of the fire pond by the motor pool, and about 20 guys had to get rabies shots? How about the story of the one-armed Marine in the back area, or the German who would come out and expose himself in the clear zone, and the guy mowing the clear zone who hit an old German anti-aircaft round and blew up the mower? And Peanuts, the woman upstairs over the gatehouse who took in the laundry (she was Bill Rodriguez's girlfriend)while he was there. How about the old EM Club and the 10 cent beer nights on payday, with the German band that played Beatles songs and had a girl dancer who didn't wear underwear! What a place! John "Pudgy" McIntyre

Comments: You asked for any info on the unit. When I was with 545, they were an (SP)special ammo in Muenster, Germany, just outside Babenhausen. As far as I know, they disbanded in early 90's when all special ammo was taken out of Germany. We were with the 59th Ord Bde, and part of the Darmstadt Community. GL in your search.

Looking for anyone who served in the 545th Ord. MAM Co. just north of Chunchon in the Sep. 1951 to Dec. 1952 era.

Any information on this unit past to present would be appreciated.

I am writing a story of my families history with a chapter on my life history to date and would like to include as much on the military portion as possible.

In Sept. 1994 my wife and I drove from Salem, OR to Aberdeen Proving grounds, MD where I had basic training. Another trip in the future will take us to Atlanta General Depot just south of Atlanta, GA (if it is still there).

Hope to here from you soon.

Thanks for the great service
