Service or Relationship: 1958 to 1978

Comments: I wish to augment my original foo to provide more clarity. I entered the military in July 1958 out of LaSalle College Artillery ROTC program, in Philadelphia. While attending the Officers Basic Artillery School at Fort Sill OK, I received a letter from Chief of Ordnance in Washington DC. It stated that the Ordnance Corps was dealing with a shortage of qualified officers and would I consider a Branch Transfer at the completion of my training. I was very familiar
with the Ordnance Corps as LaSalle ROTC conducted numerous trips to Aberdeen, MD to become familiar with all types of military equipment. I opted to switch branches and became an Ordnance Officer. My 1st duty assignment was to report into the Ordnance unit on New Years eve 1958.
As mentioned earlier in my post the CO was Capt. Henry Watson and his 1st Sgt. was Master Sargent Gurlick (?) who by 1959 was promoted to an E9, a newly establishes grade for non-commissioned officers. SGT. Gurlick (?) was immediately transferred to the 101st HQ. The Sargent was already airborne qualified. His replacement was Master Sgt. Harvey Hunter. Captain Watson was promoted to Major and reassigned to the Second Ordnance B. at Fort Campbell. His replacement was Capt. Morgan. Shortly after as a 1st Lt. I received orders for a three-year tour in Fontenet, France.

Keywords: There is more to be offered if needed.

Comments: Orville E. McMillin (born 1924-died 1961), trained at Camp Breckinridge, KY, later served with the 21st Ordnance Company (MM) in Japan. He's great niece gave me his photo album. Most, if not all photos, were taken in Japan. Are you in them? If so, please help me identify the men. Here's the link-https://johntubinisfile.com/orville-e-mcmillin/

Comments: IN 1958, MY 1ST ASSIGNMENT AS A NEW 2LT WAS AT FORT CAMPBELL, KY WITH THE 21ST ORD. CO (DS).
We were attached to the 101st Airborn and were a STRAC ONE unit. MG William Westmorland was the CG of the 101st at that time.
Capt. Henery Watson was the CO of the 21st.
To my knowledge we were the 1st Ordnance unit to be designated 'STRAC ONE".
