Comments: Taking a long shot to respond to Thomas Candy's request from December, 2002. Larry Finney is my god-uncle, and I'm named after him. Larry last lived in FL and passed in 1991 from pancreatic cancer. He was married twice and has a few children, including a son, also named Larry someplace out west, who is in aviation field also (as am I). Just recently got his military records and am trying to decode, as I did not serve. After Korea he became airline pilot for Capital/United Airlines, until forced retirement due to his illness. I know he flew Corsairs, and apparently moved to F9Fs. Record says VMA-333, VMA-212, VMF-314, AES-12

He also was in Kaneohe, Hawaii in (I believe) 1955 or '56. He originated from Wheeling, West Virginia. I found his name and a picture of him on the yellowfootprints website and am looking for any pictures that anyone has and would like to share, or just simply if you knew him. He is now 80 years old.

There were many long days, and at times it was hard work lifting those bombs and rockets onto the Corsairs. But, we usually had some time for fun too - cards, dominos, volleyball, snow-ball fights, and "shooting the bull". We all took pride in our jobs, doing our part so the squadron could accomplish its mission.

He had been flying from the Badoeing Straight for a few months, but according to his logbook, switched to flying from the USS Rendova in December of 1951. The story I have heard is that his F4U Corsair had been hit over land, he was able to bailout at sea, but was dragged by his parachute and drowned.
