Comments: My first Marine Squadron was VMF 214, the Black Sheep outfit at MCAS El Toro, California, before I went to Kprea on the 21st Aviation Replacement Draft in 1952. I flew with the Wolfraiders in 1952 until May, 1953. Left an AD in the mud after a close air support mission when small arms fire hit an oil line. Went on the mission to Pyongyang in August, (I think). Came back to the U.S. and instructed at Kingsville, Texas. Graduated the last flight of F6F's then taught the F9F Panthers until I was sent back to El Toro from where I retired. The Marines do make one confident enough to tackle almost any job, so I did a career with the Veterans Administration, before it was a Cabinet post. Got a DFC and a Gold Star in lieu of another one along with a Marine Corps Commendation Medal. The DFCs are listed under Distinguished Flying Cross Society. com alphabetically. My Korean Service was recognized by the DFC Society at their reunion in Tampa Bay, Florida in 2014.
Keywords: I got aircraft carrier qualified on the USS Wright CVE, in 1949 in an SNJ and on the Monterey in the Skyraider in 1950. They didn't tell us what battle we were providing air support to and sometimes no unit was mentioned. If there is anyone left out there who remembers me flying with him, Courtney, Steele, anybody? you have my email.

Comments: Arrived VMA 121 early 1953. Departed January 1954. Was aviation metalsmith. Our most daring pilots were M/Sgt Evans and a Lieutenant?. They bought our tinsmith shop a case of Asahi when they dropped their loads too low and received battle damage that we tinbenders had to fix. A great softball athlete "Timmer"? took VMA 121 to Fifth Air Force Championships. Forget most names but Nye was NCOIC of metalshop. For some reason food rations changed from USMC to Army and food became more scarce. It had been eat all you want and changed to two slices of bread etc. We had cold storage eggs dating back to the mid 1940's. The messduty people would break an egg into a bowl and if it was green, it was discarded. Good looking eggs were put in the good egg pot to be cooked for breakfast. I attended a NCO school at K-3 for three or four weeks but forget all the names. VMA 121 had a Personel Sergeant called Ski. I remember Bobo Phalen, a mechanic who had been in my unit at Cherry Point. A Red Fallon from Ohio, was the brother of a Cherry Point friend and became a member of VMA 121. Jesse Rocket was NCOIC of the metalshop for awhile. Two friends were members of a sister squadron of AD's in our MAG. Bud Hamilton and Red Kineary and myself had 27 great days at Treasure Island. Make the 0800 formation, then sleep, then make the 1600 formation and head for San Francisco again. The Marine Memorial Club on Sutter and Mason was our starting point usually. A very nice Chinese girl tended bar. I think Lucky Lager cost a quarter at the time. Great memories.

Comments: My father, Robert S. Haynie, Augusta, GA. died on June 2, 2001. I thought if any of his buddies were still out there they may want to know. His best stories were the ones of his Marine Corps carreer and it was more important to him that just about anything else.

Comments: Miss the Corps and Marine Aviation and would like to communicate with former members of VMA 121. Our early missions late 50s early 60s with LABS delivery methods was an exciteing period for me and I am grateful for the association and honor to have served.

Comments: I would like to anybody who was st K-6 during that time frame.
I SERVED WITH VMA-121 FROM FEBRUARY 1954 TO FEBRUARY 1955 AND VMO-6 FROM FEBRUARY 1955 TO JANUARY 1956. I WAS STATIONED AT K-6 WHILE WITH VMA-121 AND A-9 WHILE WITH VMO-6.
I RETURNED TO THE STATES WITH VMO-6 IN MAY 1955
(I BELIEVE).
I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM ANYBODY WHO SERVED WITH THESE SQUADRONS DURING THAT TIME.
