Comments: I am trying to find out what medical unit my father served in during the Korean War, Captain Robert L. Nagel. He served as a Dentist in the 37th Field Artillery Batalion . I think he was there in 1951/1952. I have a number of slides he took over there. While there, he was awarded the Bronze Star. Before or after being in Korea, he was stationed at Ft. Riley, and Ft. Sam Houston. He was born and raised in Grand Junction, CO, and returned there to practice. I don't have his service number, but he did receive the ROK Korean War Service Medal years later.

You can write the National Personnel Records Center, 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002 or go online at www.archives.gov. They sent my father's service records in just a couple of weeks and are also sending copies of his medals/awards. I was thoroughly impresses with their service, which is free. I was able to learn a lot about my father;s service to pass on to the grandchildren and to include for genealogy purposes. I would recommend this to anyone looking for their records or a loved one's records. Good luck to all.

Is there anyone that has information from the unit at that time? I am looking for names of personnel, pictures, references, full citations and any information that would help to paint any part of the picture of the unit during its historic phases.

Comments: I remember spending some time in a medical facility (MASH unit?) while serving in Korea.
I remember waking up in what appeared to be a ward and being greeted by a GI in a white medical type coat he wore Sergeant stripes on his sleeve He said something like oh so youre finally awake and then he went out and a short time later he returned with another person a doctor he had captain insignia on his collar. The doctor checked my (vitals) pulse, temperature, heart rate and so forth and asked me how do you feel? I answered fine and asked what am I doing here? The doctor said that I was unconscious when I arrived and that I had been out for a couple of days and that all of the details were in my files and that the Sgt would forward a copy to my company. He and the Sgt then left the room and soon the Sergeant returned with my clothes, he had everything, (including all of my combat gear) He told me to get dressed and we were then joined by another Officer who turned out to be a helicopter pilot. The Sergeant told me that I had been discharged from there and was being returned to my unit. The Sergeant handed the pilot a handful of papers the pilot put them into his briefcase and then we left. We soon arrived at 15th regimental headquarters as soon as we were settled down (on the helicopter landing zone) we were met by an NCO who took us into the regimental headquarters office, the pilot then handed my file to the NCO behind the desk. I was then loaded into a jeep to be returned to easy company headquarters and ultimately returned to active duty.
