Comments: The 441st was not designated a Military Intelligence Detachment when it was active in my time (1954-1955). We were - proudly - the 44st Counterintelligence Corps Detachment I still have my diploma from the Counterintelligence Corps school at Ft. Holabird. . We had a mission that was different from that of general intelligence. It was to counter the enemy's intelligence efforts.
And the term detachment was significant. We (Koshien Field Office) were not in the regular chain of command. We reported to our commander in Tokyo, who reported to the AFFE Commander (then Maxwell Taylor).
I understand that the Counterintelligence Corps ceased to exist many years ago, as did Ft Holabird.

Comments: I am looking for information about my grandfather's Korean War experience. His name was Harry Gregg, and he was a captain at the time. He was assigned to the 441st CIC from Jul 1952 until Jan 1955. According to the limited information I have, he spent about 6 months in Korea in mid-1952 and was in Japan for the rest of the time. One document I from early 1954 have lists him with an address of Tomioka Field Office, APO 503.
I would like to hear from anyone who knew him, or has documentation that provides further information on his roles with the 441st.
Harry was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran (B-24 bombardier in 1943-44) and retrained in intelligence between WWII and Korea.

Comments: I am a middle school teacher and a military historian from Connecticut. I own a non-profit traveling military museum which I take to schools and various public events. My goal is to educate the youth about the many sacrifices our veterans have made for us and to keep the memories of our veterans alive. Recently a gentleman donated a uniform grouping to me. This grouping was named to his girlfriend's father, whose name is Robert L W Baer. I believe the W stands for Weldy. The tag in the uniform states that in September 1945 Mr. Baer was a Lieutenant. From the little information I gathered, Mr. Baer was an artist attached to the 441st CIC Detachment Military Intelligence. He served at the end of WWII and through the Korean War. He spent a lot of time in Japan and possibly was married to a Japanese bride. I would love to find out more information on Mr. Baer. If anyone knows anything please contact me.
Also, if you wish to see photos of my displays please feel free to contact me. My traveling museum is non-profit and any expenses comes out of pocket. If you happen to know of anyone who has any military memorabilia which the family is not interested in keeping I would be very interested in preserving it and having it for my displays. My intention is to keep the memories of our veterans alive and when items get thrown away so do the memories. Thank you for your help!
