I submitted a request to the National Personnel Records Center, in St. Louis, for the ribbons he was awarded, so that I could include them with mine, my younger brother (USMC with 5 stars on his Vietnam Campaign ribbon (almost 2 years in country). He died last year, my sons (5 years Army 4 years Panama (Sgt), and both of my deceased step Fathers (WWII Army/USMC). We are a military family, but I'm the last of the original LUSTERS. All have passed on, and I have extreme Agent Orange poisoning, with many complications.
The report I got back has his Coast Guard info (46-48 WWII Victory Medal & America Area ribbon), and some death info from Oxnard AFB, but no info on Korea (Purple Heart, combat, or Korean Occupation). If you have any info, on my Dad, I would be extremely appreciative.
I would like to pass this collection on to my 4 sons, 11 grand children, & 3 GGrand children.

He was shot down and believed to be captured near Yalu River in 1950. His specialties war with aircraft radios. He would not talk much about his experiences so I have limited information. I have his separation discharge but there is limited information on it. His DD214 says nothing about POW status. He said he was flying a special mission where he would strafe enemy targets and drop supplies when they were shot down. The 4 officers were killed and 2 enlisted members were captured. My father stated that he was liberated by Australians Gorilla fighter and the other crew member died in captivity. I have two pictures from his collection of war item that give me some clues. He returned to the camp where he was held in 1960 and took a picture of two small dug out structures with roofs. He has written on the back that this was the camp he was in in 1950. From his stories they would stake the prisoners in a circle and torcher them one at a time. A second picture has dad in a town of Monju, Ganguon province. I am looking for any information on my father as well as information on captivity, camp name and location. From the information I have, I believe he was in a temporary holding facility below the 38 parallel in or near Wonju. He also spent some time in a Philippian hospital which I am also hoping to put a name to. His nick name was Lea. Anyone remember my dad?
