Comments: I do estate sales in Southern California and noticed in the Estate of John M. Austin U.S. Air Force Seal Beach in a photo book two pictures of the 1955th Squadron sign in front of a building. Below the photograph is the phrase 'Watashi', I thought perhaps Mr.Austin may have served in this Squadron and wanted to pass along this info. I'm pretty sure this was in Japan as there are many photo's including Hiroshima and Nagasaki and village scenes. Also one photo of the 6160th Wing Headquarters. Thank you for your service any who may read this post.

Comments: At Brady AFB in 1953, I remember these people: S/Sgt. Broderick Crawford, A/2C Leonard Beitzel, a guy named Gray, (that liked to fight, but Beitzel whipped him one night in a bar outside Brady Field), S/Sgt Salvatore Maurio in charge of Supply, a guy from Maine named Hector Pellitier who drank a fifth a day, the Commanding Officer was a Warrant Officer -- don't remember his name. I remember an Italian guy from NY named Tony (that's all I remember now).
This update is 11 Jan, 2011 Would like to meet some of the people stationed at Brady AFB 1953-1955.

Comments: When I arrived At itazuke AFB in November 1956, I was assigned to the Fukuoka Air route Traffic Control Center. On the southeast side of the base we had the Center and the Control Tower. The Center Building still had high bunkers surrounding the facilty and the Tower was a wooden structure. In 1957 we opened a new tower and RAPCON on the main side of the base. The Center Functions were greatly diminished and incorporated into the RAPCON. All Center Controllers were required to qualify in the RAPCON including GCA. I left in November 1958.

In early 1949, I attended a six month radio mechanic school at the 1855th AACS Sqdn in Tokyo. After completing school, I returned to Itazuke until I finally left Japan in August of 1952.
