Comments: I am looking for information on a Chicago airman, John Schmidt (last name may be spelled differently) who was shot by a ROK soldier at K-14 in late July or early August 1955. Also looking for information on an F-86 that crashed on K-14 in May to July 1955.
I was stationed at K-16 and K-14 From Aug. 1954 to Aug. 1955 as a Control Tower Operator. Does anyone know John R. Bowling AF15-472-938?

Comments: I am the nephew of an USAF pilot who was KIA on June 23, 1953 when his F-94b crashed nearly on top of the "Able Sugar" beacon. His mission began at 0305 hrs, flight of two F-94's out of K-13 Suwon. From my research, standard practice was to make right traffic after departure and call Chodo island. He acknowledged to his flight lead the call to change to blue channel, that was his last communication. he crashed shortly thereafter in the then named village of Tunjeon-ri, now called Dunjeon ni. The village is 12 miles to the East of Suwon. Takeoff direction was to the SE, thus he turned left--left traffic--not right. The crash occurred at 0320.
I am planning a trip to Korea and would like to visit the site of the beacon as all measurements from SAR diagrams use the homer as the datum. Any help from anyone that knows the location, recalls the crash, or can offer info would be helpful. Era maps of Suwon that would help locate the beacon etc is especially useful as would be personal recollections, photos etc.

Comments: My Father just turned 85, his hame is CLAYTON HUDSON. He isn't it good physical shape, but he still has all his wits and memories with him. I don't know much about his service, but 1993 AACS SQD K16 Korea is what he wanted engraved on a memorial brick we purchased for him in his hometown of Milton, WI. He was in the USAF from 1951-55. I know he also spent time in Biloxi, MS. He was an air traffic control tower operator at the base in Seoul. He took many, many pictures, mostly of the Korean people though. He has always wanted to find Rodrick Titus of CA and I just finally found him today online...passed away Oct. 2015. Bummer.

Comments: Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I am looking for Korean War homing station Callsigns and corresponding morse codes used for aircraft navigation through waypoints during radar navigation. Also looking for this info for each of the Korean War era airstrips. I've searched but could not find a list anywhere. I only find the K-1 to K-46 airstrip numbering.
Everything from Chodo island to airstrips would be helpful. I need for a research project. Thanks in advance...

Comments: Thank you all for your service. I'm looking for anyone who may have served with my wife's grandfather: Robert Vern Schultz (radio technician); and my grandfather: William (George) Funk, who goes by George or Bill. William Funk served in the 1993 AACS Squadron, Operating Location 46, and is still living, in the Columbus, Ohio area. I have many pictures that he had given to my grandmother. Bob Schultz passed away in 2013. I am trying to identify the Schultz in a picture and I'm wondering if anyone would know if this is indeed my wife's grandfather Schultz who served in the same unit with my grandfather Funk. I have a picture with a name list and can send you pictures if needed.

Decided to google 1993rd AACS, and this is what I found. Most entries go back a long way, but if there's anyone still around who shares the time-frame and place, I'd like to hear.

Still remember that ride from Kimpo to K18 in a RHAF "goony bird". Things were pretty primitive at that time, but we had some great cooks in the mess hall. Great steak cookouts! Then the Marines came in with their WWII Corsairs. Won't go on. Hope to hear.

Comments: Visted Korea Nov 2001, They have 50-year old Democracy that we helped to found. Groups of school children seeing us "greybeards" bowed and said "thank you!" ROKAF (K-18) treated us like visiting royalty (I was A/2C in 1953). Visited Control Tower at K-55 - modern USAF treated us great with much respect. I regret losing those that gave their all and shall remember them forever, but at least they and we that survived left a legacy of great value to South Korea.

Keywords: Control Tower Operator OL-55, OL18. K-55 - Hatpin Wheel and his F-86F's, K-18 - USN Battle Damaged Aircraft from carriers. Gene Hare, Ray Buday, Pete Whaley and the list goes on.

Comments: Was supposed to stay on island 3 months but volunteered to stay until I had almost 9 months there. Had one American and one British Destroyer that was always patroling between us and the mainland for security. Almost every day ROK pilots would be strafing the small islands between us and the mainland. Had a Korean man with us who spoke very good English and we called him Sparky. Had dog called Tripod. Do not know the other four guys that were there with me.

Keywords: Was Air to Ground radio operator (29351) at Kimpo in the 1993rd AACS Sqdn. Went out to Yongdongdo Island Northeast of Inchon and sent up Homing Site for aircraft returning from missions.
