Subject: TRYING TO FIND BIOLOGICAL FATHER

Comments: My mom grew up knowing nothing about her real dad. My grandmother would not tell her his name. Since my grandmother passed away we’ve been able to find a few photos however we have very little information to go on. We are looking for the navy sailor in the photos. We are hoping that he can help us solve the mystery, we believe he is most likely her father.

What we’ve figured out:
A. His rank in the pictures is Petty Officer 2nd Class. (1956)
B. He would’ve been a pipe fitter in the navy.
C. The portrait of him was taken in Norfolk,VA. I’m not sure if he was stationed here or if this is just where he went to pipe fitter school. Not sure of exact dates but would’ve been pre 1956. It’s possible that this photo was for a cruise yearbook for a deployment leaving from Norfolk.
D. At some point he was probably stationed at Bethesda, MD which is the area where he met my grandmother.
E. My mom was born in 1956 in Maryland.
F. I believe my grandmother was 25 when she had my mom if he was about her sane age then I am guesstimating that he enlisted in the late 1940s.

I know it’s likely that my mom’s biological father has passed away but we’re just hoping to learn a name, where he’s from and maybe a story or two.
Please follow this link to my Facebook post so you can see if you recognize his photo. I’d be grateful if anyone recognizes him and emails me.

Comments: I am seeking any information concerning my husband, David E. Clark who served in the Navy from 3/1951 to 03/1955. He has dementia and is unable to remember any details of his service. He operated Morse Code at some point in his career. I have no unit information, ship assignment or anything to begin to look for any of his service records and he is unable to communicate this to me. He would have been from the Town of Victoria, Lunenburg County, Virginia when he enlisted in the Navy.

Comments: I never met my grandpa but I am trying to find as much information possible about him to give to my grandma. His name is Antionio Sellas (or Don Sellas) and he served in the Navy in the beginning of the Korean War for four years in the Far East. He played on the Youkouska football team for three years and the Far Eastern Football Champions for one. I know he served on a Troop Transport ship as a Coxswain(sadly I do not know which one) and earned various medals. He returned to the states via a Hospital Ship, from Saigon, that took wounded troops to France and went through the Panama Canal to reach Long Beach, California. I have been told that he got many tattoos because he did not think he would last the war and did not care, including a lady and a pig and rooster. That is all I know about his time in the war, random details, but they may do the trick. Please let me know if you have any information, as I said my grandma is going through a hard time and I believe that this might help her. Thank you.

Comments: Hello,

Here is some additional information about LT-636.

My Father was stationed in Yokohama, Japan in 1950. He was in the
805 Army Marine Ship Repair Company. In the early morning on July 4,
1950, they received orders to ship off to Korea. His unit left but he was
assign to work on LT-636 as the oiler man. He said they left Yokohama
around July 11th and headed for Korea towing a sea going crane. He
could not remember the skipper's name but there is a good possibility
it was Roy Charles. The trip was non eventful and they all arrived in
Korea safely.

I have seen several entries on the web indicating the LT-636 sink on
the way back to Japan after striking a mine in Dec 1950. However, I did
find an article in the Syracuse Herald Journal dated Sept 14,1946 about
the sinking of LT- 636. Maybe the date of the sinking in the newspaper
was delayed due to restriction of information during the war.

Hope this information will aid in the recreating the historical facts of
LT-636.

Comments: The entry below was made on the Korean War Project of
Maine's wall by my now deceased wife, and was her last
attempt to gain the missing information on the
circumstances of her brothers arrival in Korea.

If you are reading this then you care, and this
information won't bring Pearl's brother back, but it
will give those who wish his memories to live on, the
much needed/sought answers.

As a Navy Corpsman, he was attached to the Marines for
combat missions in Korea. That is fact, also fact is
his arrival, and subsequent death, in Korea.

Our questions are in how he got there, and the mode
most frequently used was via ship. If he and his
Marines arrived via ship, then that ship should be
known by those who were on board, and certainly the War
Department, the US Navy, or the Marine Corp, should
have those records.

Nobody has been able to provide any of those simple
answers for Pearl's family since his death, so the
biggest question now is - !!! WHY !!! ??

PEARL's NOTE: Submission 19247 By PEARL COLFORD

I was 8 years old when Merlon got killed in Korea. Just
before Merlon's death, his unit sent our Dad a card
with money in it as I had just lost my leg in a farm
accident and a few months before that our baby sister
had died in a car/train accident. I remember our father
showed that card to everyone. Merlon had 6 brothers and
one sister left as he lost a sister and a brother.
There is only 2 of us left and we often talk of Merlon
as he was the brother that held the family together.
Our mother passed away in 1944 and the older boys
helped our father raise us younger children. Merlon was
left to do it when his 2 older brothers joined the
service. Then Merlon felt that he had to go and help
and that is when the family was seperated. We were
boarded out to family members and private homes. But
the memories of Merlon are all loving memories. He
always cared for someone. He has always been sadly
missed by his entire family. The pain is still there as
it was the day they laid him to rest. There are not
words that can express the love that I have for him. I
have his Purple Heart and I wear it proudly on Memorial
Day.

My wife will never know those answers, but her
relatives, and I are still here. That information is
needed by all of us, so won't you all give us a hand?

Thank you,
Larry

As a Navy Medic, and as others, he was called DOC.

We have never known what ship he, and his Marines,

His records must reflect that information, but all
past attempts to gain access to them have failed.

Pearl passed away on November 10, 2010, and she

This is sort of a last resort, and hopefully with

Comments: All i know is that he was from the austin, manor, or elgin area in texas and that he was a SN in the Navy and served durring the Korean war (grandma always called it the Korean Conflict). Grandma claims he was at one point a chief warren officer until he got in a fight with someone and the navy demoted him. Just trying to find anyone who might know how to find out more information about him or even someone who may have known him personally. i know this is a long shot but figured someone out there might have some advice for me.
