Comments: My father was a member of KMAG in 1949-1950 while stationed in Korea then. He passed away just recently, and I have all of his KMAG patches and others. I have discovered an odd KMAG patch among the four that he had which has a goldish-color thread woven within the white thread of the patch and possibly even some other colored thread in it as well, that gives it a distinctly darker and richer appearance from the rest.

The patch is also a thicker, heavier patch and I would imagine that it is some type of rare dress patch or something.

If anyone has any info on this or would like to see a picture of it, then feel free to contact me.

Comments: Back in 53-54 my dad, John G. Fuller was an advisor to the ROK 28th Infantry Regiment. His letter of commendation from the ROK was that he was the Tactics and Training Advisor. At the time he was a major with KMAG. He died back in 1971 and I never really got to talk to him about his tour in Korea. He did tell me one time that his duty was around Whitehorse Mountain . If you happened to work with him or it you knew him, please get in touch. Thanks.

The correct spelling is Kuma Ri. I was at that detachment
from Dec 1959 to Nov 1960 but assigned to the AGL (the compound within the compound). More than likely you won't find this village on any map other than a detailed map of Korea. It was too small. Maybe about 12 to 20 houses. I also tried to look it up to no avail. Asked some Korean friends here in town, but none had ever heard of it. There for a while I thought I had imagined it all. They did give a meaning of Kuma Ri though. Means "far away". I guess that is why some GI's kept saying "mula me. My home Kuma lee.
Sure would like to hear from someone that was there at that time.

Unfortunately, I don't have any more information than that. I am not a relative and am only seeking general information about him.
Where and when he was captured, where he was a prisoner and when he was released.
I met him while working at a language school in Osaka Japan and he passed away 3 or 4 years ago.
I am sorry to provide so little information. I have recently become interested in the Korean War and have begun doing some reading which aroused my curiosity.
I would appreciate any information which you would be willing to provide.

Comments: During the better part of 1954 I was an airman 1st class assigned to Rickey Relay Site on a mountain top near the village of Doksan. We operated a line-of-site radio relays of AN/TRC-4 FM equipment. One of the largest sites we communicated with was Highpoint relay near Chonan, south of Suwon. My mind is full of memories of the mountain-top life, and the mingling with Koreans in the nearby villages. We made supply runs to Osan and Pyongtaek, and frequented the tea rooms along the way. What a life for one year!
