Comments: Hi again,
Well, haven't filed yet but have looking through the posts. It seems that 2/76 at Camp St Barbara is not on any list for AO. The guide lines are many, but one is duty at the Imjin River. Not sure how many remember the times we spent up there on Operational Readiness exercises, 'fast paces', etc. I guess I need statements from others who were there at the same time I was (68-70). Gee, do you think my photos of the Imjin are evidence? How about pictures of those ROK suicide tanks overlooking the Imjin? The ones dug into the hills with no treads. Yup, i've got the pics. How about my pictures of our whole area with nary a tree or bush in sight? What do they want?
I guess i'll find out when the claim (diabetes) is denied.

I am looking for anyone who can write a 'buddy statement' concerning our movements during 'fast pace' operations up to the Imjin River. 2/76 is not listed under the DoD list of units operating near the DMZ for inclusion in AO filings. I know we were up there many times during my time with the 2/76.
2/76 is not included even though we were about 6 miles north of Cp Casey and the same distance from the Imjin as they were. I realize the 7thID did DMZ patrols and do not want to downplay their duties, but we were up there also.
I would like to file a claim for diabeties and need the info from anyone who has completed a claim.
Thanks

Just found a Phoenix AZ TV station expose on AO done in 2012. Link for video is below.
It details use and insanely cavalier disposal of AO and other toxic chemicals in South Korea over many years. This and the lies, lost files, lost and paperwork, etc. that covered up AO use and disposal in South Korea for only God knows how long and how early.
The video shines a light on the mountain of lies the VA relies on to deny AO claims.
Please invest the time to watch the video then share it with VA employees stringing your AO claim out when you meet them face to face then share it with other vets filing such claims.
If you're not able to open the link to view the video do a Google search for Toxic Secrets 2012. The video is approx 35 min long

I have helped many Korea Cold War/DMZ veterans with their claims and a lot of them have been approved. I have compiled a lot of information on AO and subsequent claims and will help you. I will ONLY do this via email as there is just too much documentation to copy and mail out...and to expensive. Know that if you are; outside the presumptive dates, presumptive units or presumptive areas it will be more difficult but not impossible!
Someone mentioned below about having a reunion. Our 2 ID Association will hold our 94th annual reunion this September 22-26 in San Antonio, TX and any 2 ID veteran is invited with guests. We set aside an hour and a half for a meeting for Cold War/DMZ veterans and AO is always the main topic. Comments: I was stationed at Camp Greaves in 78/79. I was in B company 1/9th inf. We ran patrols on the Z and manned the gate and the fighting positions on the fence as our everyday job. Periodically other units would come up and relieve us so we could do some unit trainingW, but it was our e obviously permanent job to man the American part of Thea's Z. I was an acting jacked Sgt in charge of a TOW missile section in weapons plt. Weapons platoon had the fence. We manned the gate, manned and maintained all the bunkers and fighting positions to the left and right of the gate. I noticed then that the area to our rear, our area, was full of exposed land mines. The weather had eroded the dirt on top and one could easily see the exposed mines. We obviously never went into that area. We were told that some of those mines, anti-personnel and anti- tank had been there since the Korean War. What I want to know is this. Why was there forest to the north of the fence and for several hundred meters to our rear, our part of the Z, nothing grew over about 3 feet. Nothing thrived and it looked like a brown and gray wasteland. We worked dailey filling sandbags and improving our fighting positions but never ventured into the ground to our rear to do anything, much less cut trees and shrubs. Why was that space barren? I know the Koreans didn't tend it either. No one could have entered that space to manually clear that land as they would have died from the mines. We heard several of them explode on cold nights from age and pressure when the temp was really low. I'm 57 yrs old and am wondering if AO is a contributing factor to ailments I have or those other vets have who were also on duty there. Any advice or experience you may have would be appreciated. I love the USA and was honored to serve but if I was exposed to something that shortens my life, I want to know all about it and seek fair compensation for it. Thanks for any help.

Comments: Anyone having issues with Agent Orange or any other defoliants can get a lot of information and support from the Korea-Agent Orange face book group. It's free. There are many articles & documents at the top under the files tab. There are buddy letters available as well.
Best of luck to all.

Comments: I remeber being i9n Korea and plains flying over head and spraying in the summer of 1966 up on the DMZ. We would put our poncho and gas mask's on and we were left with a sticky substance on us looking for any one who remebers this. they say agent orange was not used in Korea until 1977 I think this is false. I was with the 1bn 31inf 7inf Div. from Dec 1965 to Dec 1966.

Comments: Hello, My father was stationed in the DMZ as a radar specialist in the early 70's. I'm not sure of the exact dates, but I know it was towards the end of the Vietnam war. When my father was 46 or 47 he developed a form of Diabetes that is generally only developed in children. This form of Diabetes also does not run in our family. We believe my father developed Diabetes from being exposed to Agent Orange while he was assigned to the DMZ. My father has submitted claims to the VA and they have denied his claim stating they have no proof he was in the DMZ. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there an effective way to appeal?
Thank you all for your service. I hope everyone is able to get the support they deserve from the VA.

Comments: I was there Oct 1968 until Nov 1970, almost 27 months in all. I was with HHB 4/44th (Nike) 38th brigade. While in S2 part of my assignment included visiting all our batteries. I can tell you this for sure. At K-6, Camp Humphreys I saw Korean Nationals employed by the Corps of Engineers (I think engineers were running the show at that time) doing spraying around our perimeter to control foliage growing along the fence. We were in the very back of K6, just about spitting distance to the river. Insurgents used to try to get in back there. Anyway, what was somewhat of a regular occurrence that I witnessed first hand was the herbicide spraying. There was usually a Korean National with a back pack sprayer assembly. Just ahead of him was a truck pulling one of those oval shaped liquid hauling trailers. Not sure if it was 3/4 ton or duce and a half pulling the trailer. But they sprayed heavy loads of this mystery substance all around the place, including our bunkers (inside and out). Have to include the heavy insecticide spraying during malaria season. If we had heavy rains (which we did) they would be back spraying once again. They used a herbicide that was specifically Agent Orange, there were other colors which coincided with the broad stripe around the 55 gal drums. But, they all had 2,4,D. I think Army had a pretty good idea what the effects of exposure was going to be. This was the gift that kept on giving. If I can tell you more, let me know. markbrwn@surewest.net. You can go to the VA website and get the buddy statement form and complete as much as you can and email it to me. I will complete my statement, sign it and email and snail mail it back to you. I have been fighting with the VA for several years. I have been able to get 60% but I really want the 100% that I beleive I am entitled. I have a whole laundry list of stuff that is AO related.

Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (CBRN) weapons programs proliferated through the Third World during the 1960's. These programs reached maturity in the 1980's, when chemical and toxin weapons were used on battlefields in North Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. In the 1990's, these programs are being expanded and refined.

Ok are you done being lied to. I spent 30 days quarantined on GP Ouellette, multiple Army awards and the Imjin patch, went to Saint Louis to see records, all references to Korea were not in there, yet assignments before and after are there.
I became the field sanitation spec after ON THE JOB TRAINING.
I don't know about the rest of you, but this Buffalo COMBAT medic is done with the lies. I have done a ton of research. I am not a good point man, but I do research well as a result of OCD.
From Marine intelligence there are more than 20 tunnels on the DMZ. I have a pic of the on I was in that sat on the DMZ. In the background NK soldiers can be see, with there nickel plated weapons.
If you want see the exposure of lie after lie, look me up. Don't come half stepping, you left blood sweat and tears up there, now rise up get what you deserve.
We need our own coalition to raise awareness of the mission we were on and that the mission the American public was lied to about.
I have got enough to challenge many lies, and I owe it to the MEN I lost the summer on the DMZ. You have been denied over 2 decades of benefits, you have been left behind as you and I qualified as DIPs to be the tripwires for the American public to demand re-enforcements be sent in when they report the loss of all soldiers in and around the DMZ.
