Comments: My middle son Barry Scott Bobbitt was born August 20 1971 and I returned from Korea on August 30 1970. He was diagnosed with Kyphosis a severe spinal curvature at a young age and had two spinal surgeries by age 16. His last surgery was 18 years ago. I maintain his spinal problem and my parkinsons and periferal neuropathy were caused by exposure to Agent Orange while I was at the DMZ in Korea.

He has been diagnosed with Parkinsons, stomach cancer, and skin cancer. I am trying to find out if this could be related to his time in Korea. I asked him if he ever went up to the DMZ and he said he remembers going there on field problems and to deliver equipment. Not sure where else to check. He was also at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in 1966, and at Ft. Gordon in 1968 through 1971. Anyone from his camps or unit have any luck with VA claims?

I drove a truck ,and hauled Katusas to the dmz to cut trees. Also I was jeep driver for s-4 captain, who went to Panmunjam dmz several times. I left korea 2 july 1967. From what I have read vets qualify for agent orange disability benefits beginning Sept. 1 1967. I have neurophy in both feet , coronary heart disease, chronic kidney disease, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and tinnitis. Are we positive agent orange wasn't used at that time?

I was the S4 driver and had to take the S4 officer to the DMZ at least monthly sometimes more depending on enemy activity there. We had several field problems that involved going to designated areas in the Korean countryside. We set up temporary camps for a week or more. We had several red alerts and had to gather weapons, ammo, and all combat field gear. We proceeded to designated combat field locations in response to North Korean infiltrators. We remained in position until the all clear signal was received.

Comments: As for hypertension being deemed a compensable benefit as a presumptive illness due to exposure to Agent Orange, it's a little premature to start counting your chickens:
The PACT Act [will] not be fully implemented immediately. Hypertension will be added to the presumptive conditions list for Agent Orange exposure immediately for those who are terminally ill, homeless, under extreme hardship, or are over 85 years old. This will not be implemented for the remaining Vietnam [era] Veterans until October 2026.

Comments: The PACT Act of 2022 did not change the presumptive dates for service along the
Korean DMZ. Additionally, it did not add any new presumptive units.

However the act did add two new agent orange related diseases. High blood pressure
and monoclonal gammopathy of unknow significance also know as MGUS which is
relatively rare protein disorder found in blood and bone marrow.

If you have a diagnosis of high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, you
should file a claim with the VA as long as you can prove you were on the DMZ. Most
everyone over the age of 60 has high blood pressure,

If your blood pressure is under control using medications, you may be granted service
connection for agent exposure and receive either a 0 percent or a 10 percent
disability rating. If your blood pressure is not under control with medication your
rating could be much higher. In any case your blood pressure medications will be
supplied at no charge by the VA

Service or Relationship: 1966-1967

Comments: I have just found the VA has expanded its dates to allow Agent Orange exposure claims for vets serving in Korea.

The Department of Veterans Affairs now recognizes AO claims for veterans who served in a unit in or near the Korean demilitarized zone (DMZ) anytime between September 1, 1967 and August 31, 1971. They are presumed to have been exposed to herbicides.

The VA had previously denied out of hand Korea vets AO claims for those who served prior to 1968. The link for the VA website with the expanded claims dates is:

https://www.publichealth.va.gov/exposures/agentorange/locations/korea.asp

Following are two links to an Arizona TV station's 2012 telecast documenting the military's lies regarding the timeline for use and disposal of Agent Orange in Korea:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XpyE8zNX14

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4WTNYqoya8

If you are a fellow vet who has a pending claim or wish to revisit a rejected AO claim against your service between SEP 1967 and AUG 1971, I encourage you to follow up with the VA at your earliest opportunity.

Comments: The prior post by Bill is spot on. The spraying of agent orange by the U.S. in Vietnam was stopped in October 1971 although the South Vietnamese continued spraying for another year. Any U.S. veteran who served in Vietnam through the end of the war in 1975 is presumed to have been exposed to agent orange.

In Korea we depleted our inventory of agent orange by the end of summer 1970. Korean DMZ veterans presumptive date end point is August 31, 1971.

You should ask your representatives in Washington what the reasoning is for this disparity. You should also ask your representatives this question: If the presumptive period for the Korean DMZ is one year after spraying stopped, and the presumptive period in Vietnam is 3.5 years, then why is the U.S. currently spending $183,000,000 to clean up dioxin contamination at Bien Hoa Airport in Vietnam. Read this article:

https://time.com/5575064/us-agent-orange-clean-up-vietnam-bien-hoa/

In my opinion this means our politicians and businessmen value Vietnamese health and life more than American Korea DMZ Veterans.

Comments: We all need to band together to put an end to the VA chicanery.

1. It's a known fact that the effects of dioxin last for more than a decade.
2. It's a known fact that Agent Orange was being stored on the Pen during the '70s.
3. Anyone who saw the DMZ in the early to mid '70's knew that defoliant had been used. Wide swaths of territory were practically bare in spring and summer.
I was with the 2ID MI Detachment from 1975-1976. We had DMZ passes, and flew in to support the SIGINT detachments. That was less than 4 years after the "official" end of using Agent Orange, but it does not mean that the chemicals had dissipated. The only way to change the VA's interpretation is to change the dates and include more locations by name.
