Comments: MY BROTHER, Orson William Hildebrand Jr. was stationed at Ashiya AirForce Base-JAPAN FROM 9 SEPTEMBER 1952 TO 13 MARCH 1954. He was a radio repairman.During the time he was at Ashiya he was in and out of the hospital , deathly sick with flu like symptoms. Also during this time his combat record shows; Second summer fall offensive, Korea, 1 Oct, 52, 30 Nov. 52, Third Korean Winter, Korea 1Dec 52, 30/pr53, Korean Summer -Fall, Korea 1 May 53-27 Jul 53. We remember him talking about flying deceased troops out of Korea and I remember viewing a picture he had showing the inside of a airplane with body bags against the walls of the aircraft (both sides) either in bunks or strapped to the sides of the plane. The bags were four to six high. I can't remember for sure. our question is why would he as a Acft Elect Rpmn be flying the deceased troops. Was it a requirement to have a Acft Elect Rpmn on the airplane? This was a large airplane and a large amount of bodies. I don't know from his combat record if he would have been flying in the airplanes at that time or doing other type of combat at that time.Or if he could have been flying at other times. We are concerned if he could have contracted some illness (disease) while doing this. His time of illness started after he was done with the Korean Summer-FALL, korea combat from 1 May 53 to 27d July 53. He was sick thereafter in and out of sick bay (dispensary) and in the USAF Hospital-483d medical group, Ashiya Air Base, Japan. His sickness continued after he came back to the states and to Pinecastle Air Force base, Florida and to civilian life.
We are concerned if this was from overseas and continued on through his service and into civilian life what it was and could it have continued on to his children. One of his sons has the same symptions and almost died in a hospital in Sacramento, California last year. Please-anyone answer to our e-mail. Were concerned- should we be?
