Comments: My uncle, SFC Allan C. Fadden, served in Korea from 4/1953 thru 8/1954 with a medical detachment serving the 2nd Div. Artillery support organization, 2nd Army Division. His DD 214 list his most significant Most Significant Duty Assignment as 1666 Medical Detachment 2nd Artillery. My research indicates that 1666 is a Military Occupation Specialty identifier for a Medical Platoon Sergeant during the Korean War. The Medical Platoon Sergeant was responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the medical platoon, which provided medical support to the battalion level. The Medical Platoon Sergeant was also responsible for ensuring that the medical platoon was properly trained and equipped to provide medical care to the soldiers.

Comments: My father, Charles Rivera, served in Korea from 51-53. I have many photos from his service, but not many stories to accompany the photos. Some of the photos have notes on the back. The only stories I have heard were after he had passed away.

Comments: My father was a medic in the Punchbowl from 1951-52 with the 1666 Med Co, 5th Inf Reg. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who may have known him or served in that time and place. Like many Korean War veterans, Dad maintained a 'code of silence' about his time there, although he occasionally let slip a few details: being holed up under friendly fire, administering placebo instead of morphine due to risk of overdosing the wounded, walking single file always to avoid landmines. I have several pictures he took, including a view from one of the hills overlooking the Punchbowl.
