Hi ted and hal, like your web site, the 98bw,yokota,japan was my
home in 1951 as a b-29 combat crewman. any ideas?

I can't tell you a lot about the 98th BW,but I will tell you what I know.
I was a replacement on rotational basis from my home base in
tucson,to form a new crew in Japan.

The 98th arrived in the far east 8 days after the start of the war
( last week of JUNE 1950) from Spokane,Wash. Its primary targets
were bridges, railway yards and troop concentration.

The 98th remained at Yokota for the duration of the war flying some
of the last missions. As crews were sent back They were reassigned to
new organizations in the U.S. The 98th by that time was dis banded.

Over the years I have tried to find more history about the 98th but to
no avail Hearing from an old buddy would also be nice.
I will keep in touch about any thing new if you are interested.

thanks

Keep up the good work. I already found a fellow crew member
hadn't seen or heard of for 46 years!

I was with the 98th Bomb Wing on tdy at Yokota AFB in Japan.
Only about a year, from early 1951 to 1952.

I have a few photos of B-29s over N. Korea at my website.

More are available, and better quality if you are interested.

Hello Ted,
I had received a message from a lady trying to find any information
on a relative.

Her name is Cindy Gonzales. The mans name is Howard Ryan Carney.

He was born in Oklahoma and lived in Texas. He was in the Air Force
and was flying in a B-29 which was hit during a mission and went down,
they think.

His death date was give to them as September 20, 1953. They said he
was on a mission at that time, I thought the war ended July 27, 1953.

Could you post this information for me and have any thing sent to me at
schobelo@zoomnet.net
Thanks to everyone

Looking for 98th Bomb Wing (B-29) veterans, especially those who served
during time between Sept. 52 and Feb. 53.

I authored a book, THE BRUSH OF ANGEL WINGS that covers the history of
the Korean War and includes personal experiences of the 27 combat
missions flown by our crew (Hearts Desire II). If interested, contact me.

Note: the KWP features Bob's book on our Bookseller section.
