Comments: Hello,
I am looking for any information regarding Captain James B. Brown. He went MIA on May 30, 1953 while returning from a mission. He flew with James Red Harrell (sp.), whom I believe was his radar operator. Harrell's remains were found a while back around Kunsan, but to this day, my great uncle is still missing. If anyone has any information regarding his service, I would greatly appreciate anything you have to offer.
We have heard of accounts of his name etched into a latrine wall in a Chinese POW camp, and an officer's uniform with Brown monogrammed on the front. This all has come from a B-29 crew member named Luellan. We can't verify if this is our James, but any information or photographs anyone might have will be well received.
Thank you,
Matt Brown

Have two photos of a F4U-5NL I took in Kunsan, Korea (K8) in September 1952. There is a large "41" on the port side of the aircraft below the cockpit. The underside of the port wing also shows "41 WF". WF (Willie Fox) was the squardron identification at that time. Could this be the aircraft you're inquiring about?

Comments: My father, Archie Moore was a Sgt (E-5 I think, possibly E-6) during the Korean War, stationed there in Korea. He flew back seat as an RO (I believe). My mother's name was Flossie. Anyone knowing where I could get information. Daddy died in 1960 when I was 10 yrs old, and my 2 other brothers were younger. Daddy also spent time in the early 50's at Cherry Point where both brothers were born. I've never learned much about his time in Korea and would appreciate any and all information I could get.
I was an Air Intercept Controller in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Most of my dialog with the aircraft was mostly with the RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) which was daddy's equivalent in the F4 Phantom and later in the F 14 Tomcat. Had we served at the same time, that's who I would have talked to. I didn't know it until after I became a controller.
Of interest also, my uncle, Lad Moore flew with Chennault in the Flying Tigers.
If anyone has any sources, stories, anecdotes, or any way to lead me to information about the Flying Nightmares and/or the Flying Tigers, I would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Semper Fidelis

Comments: My father, Joseph Joe Thompson, was a Marine aviator for 33 yrs and flew in World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam. In Korea he was a MSGT and assigned to VMF(N)-513 and flew in the F3D and F7F as an RO from June 1952 until early February 1953. I have his logbooks and during the Korean War he flew primary with a Major Martin but he also logged time with pilots named: Collins, Conley, Corvi, Dellamano, Kross, Matheson, Matthews, McKamy, Moore, Palfrey, Rushlow, and Schoner.
I am a retired military officer myself and my passionate hobby is flight simulation. I currently write aviation articles for a major online flight simulation site using a desktop simulator program to tell aviation related stories about various aircraft. Normally the stories are fictional but occasionally I write a true story; one such story was about the F3D Skyknight and a flight my father and Major Martin made in the aircraft across the US in April 1952 just before they deployed to Korea. Heres a link to that story: http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/feature/f3d.htm.
Im currently in the preliminary planning stages of several new articles and one is planned to cover flying a VMF(N)-513 F7F Tigercat in Korean from Kunsan during the period my father was in-country. I plan to also include the F3D in this story.
Anyone with information regarding the actual mission techniques and the crew's cockpit interaction employed by the Flying Nightmare in these two aircraft in Korea in 1952 is encouraged to contact me.
I would also love to hear from anyone who knew my father in Korea or knew one of the pilots that may have flown with my father during that period.

For this paper I do not need just combat experiences. Often training experiences offer tactical insights on how the Marine Corps planned to operate its aircraft that combat experiences do not.
I believe I sent out a request to some of you a year ago. It has been difficult to get AMU to approve this project but they finally have.

Comments: The Mid-America Aviation Museum in Liberal, Kansas, has one of our old Corsairs, totally refurbished--in fact, it looks a lot cleaner than it ever did in Korea back in '50-'51. Bureau No. is 124447. Check your logbook--maybe you flew that airframe? I just went throught there and got pictures--if you want to see it, I'll email some--write me at dahlberg@ghvalley.net
