I was born in 1952 and was named after him, and his shoes are hard to fill. I was raised by his parents along with my two brothers. Gerald was a only son to them and they didn't talked much about him . I don.t think they ever got over his passing. I would just like to know any information about him ,good or bad if possible. 1951. We celebrated the Marine Corps birthday on the 10th. then
I was sent by truck to Baker Co. in Pohang where we were
unloading aircraft fuel from victory ships and LSTs for MAG 33.
In April we packed our gear and drove our amtracs aboard a
Korean train and headed north. We unloaded the amtracs in Seoul
and drove them north about eighteen miles where they were
huldefaliated and we went on the lines as a weapons company. Bn.
headquarters was set up where we left our amtracs. We ran
patrols, dodged incoming and held positions all along the Imjin
River until the 14th. Replacement Draft was relieved in November
and we later boarded the U.S.S. Pope for the trip to Treasure
Island. I was promoted to sergeant on the way home and was
discharged on April 1, 1954. The Marine Corps made a life-long
impression on me, for the good.
