75th Air Depot Wing - FEAF

United States Air Force

The 75th Air Depot Wing arrived in South Korea from Texas on January 2, 1953, replacing the 6405th Air Support Wing. Operated a major depot at Chinhae until the end of the conflict. Assigned to the Far East Air Logistic Force, the wing received, stored, and transported equipment and supplies such as ammunition, fuel, breathing oxygen, and aircraft parts for combat wings in South Korea. It recovered, reclaimed, and repaired crashed or disabled aircraft in Korea. The wing also maintained and repaired combat aircraft, particularly B-26s, at Iwakuni Air Base in Japan, working with the 6418th Air Depot Wing stationed there. Among the 75th's other duties were salvaging and disposal of used and surplus war materiel, controlling corrosion of aircraft fuel tanks, maintaining and defending Chinhae Airdrome (K-10), sending traveling teams to maintain and repair aircraft equipment, flying clothing, and shop equipment at various bases in Korea, and rehabilitating, storing, and issuing pierced steel planking for airstrips. In the course of these duties, the wing maintained liaison with port agencies at Pusan and Inchon and with railheads in South Korea for the processing of USAF personnel and materiel, including Air Force special purpose vehicles.

unfortunately don't remember names my 'buddies' as way too much
time has passed. I was on duty the night the cease fire came down
and remember running across the compound with my little 'FLASH'
message to the Duty Officer. It was shortly after that we were
sent back to Japan to await for our rotation back to the states. I
believe we returned on the USNS Hase in August of 1953. A long
boat ride but well worth it. Arrived in San Francisco and was
taken to Parks AFB for processing. and from there to McChord AFB. I

The book can be purchased from Amazon, Barnes and Noble,

Comments: Austin, Texas (January 28, 2009) -- George Robert Orsatti, Trichologist and a well respected member of the beauty profession has gone to the great beauty salon in the sky. He was born on February 19, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA but was destined and determined to become a Texan after joining the US Air force. He proudly served as a Sergeant in the Korean War and entertained his fellow airmen as a drummer in the 75th Air Depot Wing Dance Band.

In 1961, George and his wife Rosalie founded Bella Donna Coiffures, a thriving and popular full-service beauty salon. When not making San Antonio women more beautiful, George played drums in dance bands and hosted local radio and television shows. Although a salon owner, George also served as a platform artist, and taught hair styling and color chemistry for Wella International from 1956 to 1969.

From 1970 to 1976, he served as a consulting lecturer for Redken Laboratories. It was while working for Redken that George met John McCall, CEO of Armstrong McCall Beauty Supply. John recognized Georges talents and charisma and promptly recruited him to serve as Armstrong McCalls Director of Research and Education. George produced Armstrong McCalls first World Fair of Cosmetic Arts and Sciences held at the Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas. This annual event, now in its 26th year, continues to be highly successful. As a member of the International Association of Trichologists, George was a frequent guest on radio talk shows throughout the State of Texas called Ask the Hair Doctor.

George made the beauty industry a family affair and in 1978, persuaded his daughter Annette and her husband Terry Perrone to open a beauty supply distributorship in Houston, Texas. With the help and support of George, Annette and Terry purchased a beauty supply distributorship in Houston, Texas.
George was later recruited by Redken Laboratories to produce educational events for Redken Distributor Associates (RDA), a Texas beauty supply company that soon grew to become a friendly competitor and rival of Armstrong McCall.

In his retirement years, George and Rosalie volunteered at the Brackenridge Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop but also managed to publish a monthly newsletter for the beauty professional called On the Cutting Edge. George also served as a volunteer advisor to the Texas Cosmetology Commission. Throughout his career, George touched the lives of many and he will always be remembered for his passion and commitment to the beauty profession.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established the George Robert Orsatti Scholarship Fund.

Remember, approximately 55 years ago, for many of us, we were on the our first cruise, on the largest ship we had ever seen. Since I grew up in the Texas Panhandle, didn't see any big ships, in fact we didn't have any large lakes. High and Dry.

I still remember the Christmas menu. I would not trade the experience of the cruise nor K-10 for anything. The memories are to important to me. The Korean People and many of the guys I served with will always have a place in my heart. Best Wishes to All.

Comments: Our outfit shipped out to Chateroux, France from Ft Dix, NJ in Jan 53 aboard the USS Marine Carp. The Marine Carp left us off at LeHarve, France and cotinued to Bremerhoven, Germany where she sank in the harbor, we are told. I also know there were more 75th in Moulins, France. I don't know the whole story, but would like to find out. Would also like to know if us French 75th vets are welcomed to your next reunion.

Comments: i was a charter member so to speak of the 2 mrsq. we formed at kelly afb in 1951 and flew to camp stoneman, calif to board the yearba(?) buena ferry to the sanfrancisco dock area and boarded the uss genl hase for an 18 day cruise to yokohama japan, via pearl harbor, which we honored to view the uss arizona prior to the building of the shrine over it, it was an awesome sight. we trained in tachikawa japan and then continued on to korea, we boarded the uss pvt joe p martinez for the short sail to inchon korea. out home base in korea was k2 taegu from which we tdy'd all over korea. i personnally went to k13 suwon, k9 puson and k10 chinae. most of my time was spent at k10, crating up wing tip tanks for the shipment to japan for refurbishing. any one out there remember k10? the open ended shed we used for assembling the crates for the tip tanks, and the 5 gallon lard can we kept on the wood burning stove, full of steaming coffee all day. i have some pictures and some orders from that era.
