Comments: Arrived Chinea Korea Jan 20 1953 from Tachikawa Japan via C130. Went from Chinea , K10 to Pusan Korea K 9 via truck convoy Spring of 1954. It has been such a long time ago that I do not remember too much about the camp site except the smell the from the outside toilets and the tents and all of the mud when getting out of bed in the mornings. I worked in the bomb dump from 7 PM to 3 AM. At the time I was an A1c and do not remember any of the men that I worked with. I retired form the Air Force in 1977 as Msgt. I am now 87 years old and would like anyone still around, who was with the 543rd during Jan 1953 to Apr. 1954, to give me a shout out.

Comments: Arrived k9 air base sept. 1954 monsoon rain
season.assigned to 543rd ASSD. Was there for one year
and ten days. the 75th Bomb Wing was across the road
main base. I worked in heavy equipment hauling jet
fuel tanks to ship yard in Pusan, as well as ammo
from bomb dump. Also transported D 8 dozer arround
for the Army engineers. Reading some of the notes
from other guys I understand that there is some sort
of a resort in place of K9 and the 543rd. I like to
watch MASH on tv it reminds me of that area.

Set tents, some guys used burlap bags to cushion their cots and picked up sand fleas. Beach was near K-9. As best determined it was between Sept.15 and Sept. 25. HELP

Stationed at K-10, 75th Air Depot Wing, Chinhae, K-9, 543rd Ammo Supply Sqd., Pusan, and K-11, 547th Ammo supply Sqd., Ulsan as a radio operator. I remember my friends, Charlie LeDuc, (from the Bronx) Willie Wilkins (from Brooklyn), Jack Parker (from Pittsburgh) Barney (can't remember his last name) (from Cohoes, NY). Have some good photos, if anyone would like to see them, send me a reply.

Comments: I spent eight months in the 543 near Pusan. I was a Staff Sgt. at the time. I went on to spend time at Naha Okinawa, Saigon, Vietnam, and Utapao, Thailand. I retired from the USAF August 1970 as a Senior Master Sgt. I would be glad to renew old aquaintances with those men that I served with. I have a few pictures of the 543rd. and will share them with those who are interested. I am now 75 years old and it seamed like yesterday that I was in Korea.

time; ... Learned how to drive on a 2 1/2 ton sixby, when I got there,
never had driven before;
Eventually hauling bombs to our storage area after qualifying for my
military license;... I still have my 543 Rd Unit P atch that reads Satan's
Sidekicks ! would be delighted to hear from others who were there at the
time. Names I remember: Norman C Grier, (He was a machinist) and a
fellow named, Van Arsdale. ; I also vaguely remember the Negro SSGT.

Comments: I see two or three people called me Lt Patterson but my name was, and still is Patton. I was in charge of the bomb Dump from July of 54 to July of 55. Bill Silkwood and Kirkpatrick were two of the greatest guys I worked with. I encouraged Kirk to go on to college when he got out and he wrote me a nice note when he graduated.

It was I who placed who entry on this website requesting that those members of the 543rd
who remember Major Vanderhoven visit the pages that honors him and his former command.
Major Leo H. Vanderhoven took command of the 543rd on 23 June 1952. He replaced Major Charles W. Slaughter.
It was my privilege to serve under Major Vanderhoven until I rotated back to the States on 5 April 1953.

Comments: I think that somebody has missed something somewhere.When the 543rd was put together at San Bernerdino Calif. Major Harris was the one who put the outfit together. after we got to Korea sometime in September,we worked our tails off, sometimes for eighteen hours a day and when our time for rotation came, Major Harris volunteered his men for a second round of duty there. This goat him a Lt. Col. raating and then he left us there with our new comander, by the name of Major Slaughter, who was still in command when i left in Feb. of 1952. That is what I know for sure.
